    Poor Download speed help needed please

    This is a discussion on Poor Download speed help needed please within the Speed tests and how to get better results forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; Hi All I've been reading through other threads but to be quite honest I don't understand what all this information ...

      Poor Download speed help needed please

      Hi All

      I've been reading through other threads but to be quite honest I don't understand what all this information reads. I'm on Sky Max but below is my test

      System Up Time: 101:46:15

      Connection Speed 378 kbps 252 kbps
      Line Attenuation 61 db 39 db
      Noise Margin 16 db 23 db

      Can you please explain if this is correct?
      Should my speed be better?
      Do I need to get BT in to sort something out?

      You have a very high line attenuation and this will be whats causing the slow speed,

      Can you check & post the stats from the test socket ,
      If your line stats get better in the test socket give us more info on the full set up .

      I don't appear to have a test socket inside my line, I have recently gone to BT so I can have sky broadband, previously I was on NTL/Virgin.

      Also my virgin line was connected to the box with a T on it. I'm currently running my broadband off the connection in my bedroom which works ok but this appears to be a standard box

      You need to find the master socket, this is the first socket connected to the cable that comes in from outside.

      the main problem is the capping - you'd get a good 1.5-2Mbps uncapped...

      Thanks for the response guys, i don't appear to have a master socket as detailed on BT website but I do have a small white box next to my socket. Could this be what I'm looking for?
