In theory, if you boot or power cycle the router at a noisy time, say 9 pm tonight, you should re-sync at a rate the line can sustain and get no more drop outs.

Re: New User here... strange numbers

Had a discussion earlier with a member of the family (who will remain nameless)

They say that the router shouldn't be "taxed" in the first ten days so that the max speed will stick after the ten days.

However, I believe this to be tripe. DLM is in place for the first 10 days, yes. But, it is also monitoring the line permanently, so there would be nothing to stop it adjusting the line in the future (i..e if you wait until after the 10 days and then start doing things)

As such, last night i found some hefty files and let it do its thing.

It's been rock solid @ 16Mb all day long, not a single disconnection - My belief is that if there is going to be some instability in the line, it would be best to find out NOW rather than later.

      However, is this person correct?

I think they are wrong and you are correct.

      Awesome.

I hate it when I get into these discussions with people like this.

It starts to feel like they are undermining my knowledge! I love and breathe this stuff (networking) every day

Dont think anyone can argue that my line isnt capable of 16Mb: -

      System Up Time: 360:33:18

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 74403153 142709349 0 0 1553825 346:06:26
      LAN 163806360 84874966 0 1949275 0 360:33:18
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16373 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.5 db 11.7 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 13.5 db

That's 2 weeks uptime in a single connection.

And I slated the poor old Sagem router too

If you need it's extra facilities, now might be the time to try your Cisco.

Re: New User here... strange numbers

Am too scared to use it now.

Think I will wait until I sit the ISCW exam, that's got a lot of PPPoA in there...

At the moment I'm not needing it
