Well all I can say is something is going on thats affecting my connection.

You can see from the results posted above I went from a download of 5000 Kb/s to a download of 13670Kb/s without any changes on my end and now I am back down to 5572 Kb/s again which is close to what I had with an 8Mb connection before I upgraded

Well assuming that your sync speed has not changed, and the first line stats you posted were fine, then this is down to Sky. I would give it a couple of days to see how it settles, don't phone Sky just yet, someone is bound to get the wrong end of the stick, and capp your sync speed.

      Re: Really confused regarding speeds

Do not trust these "Speed Checker" websites, they are not what they are cracked up to be and the one you are looking at is terrible! If you called sky and spoke to me id check your line, see the actual speed (from router/DSLAM) and tell you that there is nothing wrong with your connection, bare in mind you can only download as quickly as the server can upload.

if your so fixated on your speed because you are having connection issues then you line is possibly unstable but looking at the data you provided that would seem unlikely
if its just because you want to know your speed then look at the router details those don’t lie, they’re never wrong and they aren’t subject to traffic on 3rd party servers.

you are on the peak of the Sky package, to monitor your TRUE speed you have to look at the router status page.

if you have only just came to sky you will be on DLM that may adjust your speed if there is a stability issue but if the line remains like that then you will be fine

Example of why speed checker websites suck....

      Re: Really confused regarding speeds

      Greeting folks,

Was going to say when it comes to speedtest.net its not all ways best to pick the closest server !
I am in belfast but all ways the london server ,
If i use the cork server i get a lower speed ,

Also for any one from belfast there is also a speed test site in belfast

      Called Lucid Ni

UK Speed Test - Lucid NI Web Design and Internet Hosting Belfast Northern Ireland

This is not a bad test but have seen better ,

With regard to your speed Rebel can you give us more info on the set on and some line stats ,

Again this could be caused by errors or bad data on the line .

DLM would not have adjusted his line between that time scale 6:43 pm to 10:34 pm. DLM kicks in early in the morning.

Have your stats changed much on the router rebel ?

      Re: Really confused regarding speeds

Bearing in mind that Rebel was a Customer on Mid, and has now upgraded to Max, does anyone know if DLM would be activated under such circumstances or is it just for brand new connections at present?

      Greetings,

Your not the only one that's confused...

The following is from the machine actually connected to the net..

and this one is from the machine I use... which is about 30 to 40 feet, cable length wise, from the patch panel and then it goes to the switch and then to the gateway...

due to the distance from the exchange and the crap line my max speed is about 4Mb but usually 3.7'ish using the speedtester on this site results in...

We have detected that your ISP is Demon - Your current download speed is 1464Kbps, and your current upload speed is 296Kbps.
      and...
We have detected that your ISP is Demon - Your current download speed is 2656Kbps, and your current upload speed is 344Kbps.
but not really bothered about the speed as long as it's working....
