OK - to check your profile, do the following:

Enter your phone number (the one that BB is on) and click go.

Then enter your ADSL username. This is the LAN MAC address of your router followed by @skydsl e.g. 001B3F81BEE9@skydsl. Note is must be the LAN MAC not the ADSL MAC and entered without the colons. You'll find the LAN MAC in your router status page (I think - don't have that router) so copy and paste it to avoid mistyping.

Post back your test result. With a sync of 1376kbps your BRAS profile should be 1000kbps.

Lastly, when you get a chance, please update your Skyuser profile to show Connect and the Netgear V2.

Re: Faster Upload than Download?? HELP.

OK well there's your problem. Your Connect IP profile is only 350kbps so your maximum download speed will be less than that.

Now the question is why is it so low (as I said before, should be 1000 with your sync).

Connect uses an exchange base rate adaption system which monitors your line condition and sets the sync and IP profile accordingly. It would seem likely that the system has found line problems and so dropped the sync and IP profile. However, the sync would appear to have gone back up but the IP profile hasn't. This can take 3 days to reset or it could be stuck.

If it hasn't reset yet then it should. If it is stuck then only BT (asked by Sky) can sort this.

I'd suggest you leave it for a day or two and see if things improve. While you're waiting, have a read of the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on improving your line condition. The better you get it the better your line will (eventually) perform.

If your IP profile doesn't improve then you'll need to call Sky and go through the slow speed troubleshooting.

Re: Faster Upload than Download?? HELP.

Thank you very much, i will try the faceplate forums and try to get it better. my connection has said this now for about three weeks so i think it may be stuck if i'm reading your post correctly. i'll phone sky, to ask bt, to change my IP profile.

      lol however.

is that what i ask for? an IP Profile change/reset?

how long would that take? roughly?

thanks again mate. You've been really helpfull and quick in your replies.

Re: Faster Upload than Download?? HELP.

If you've had slow download speeds for several days then it probably is stuck.

Unfortunately it's pot luck whether you get a T1 agent who would have a clue about IP profiles or not - chances are not

However, their slow speed troubleshooting process should end up with you getting put through to CST who probably will have a clue.

So call SkyBB (late at night is best as queues are shorter and you'll get through to CST quicker) and tell the agent that your download speeds are very low. Don't get fobbed off with "that's all your line will support". Insist on talking to CST.

The agent will then go through a long list of questions:
      • is your router plugged in
      • do you have it in the test socket
      • do you have filters fitted

      . . . . and so on

You'll have to be patient and eventually the agent will finish the script and raise a ticket. Take a note of the ticket number and decline a call back - ask to be put in the queue. If you get through to CST quickly, great. If not hang up then call back another time quoting the ticket number and you won't need to go through the troubleshooting again.

When you do get through to CST tell them your sync is 1376kbps (or whatever it is at the time) but the BT test shows your IP profile to be 350kbps. They should understand.

It will probably take a few days for BT to reset it.

Re: Faster Upload than Download?? HELP.

As I said before, this early in the evening isn't a good time to call - you'll probably not get through to CST. You might get lucky though.

CST used to be called T3 (actually they merged T2 and T3 I believe). CST are more technically competent than T1 and have greater ability to run tests/change things. Hopefully you'll get a CST agent who used to be T2 as they were just Connect support before IIRC.

Great - that's a result. Looks like Sky's call handling is getting better maybe

Let us know how things pan out.
