Are you for real kid, I'm seeking the same answer as you, I'd of asked the same removed question but you already have, so you want me to start another thread about the same subject running side by side to this one.

Re: Second night of snail-like speeds

tiredEyes - you situation is nothing like the OPs...

you're on Connect, which is a rebranded BT Wholesale product and one which is (at present) subject to throttling during peak times (usually 6PM-Midnight)...

The OP is on Mid, which is on Sky LLU and has just found out how unreliable online speedtesters can be...

if you read through the main forum you'll see you're not alone in this situation as I myself am also unfortunate to be on Connect and suffer speed drops from an otherwise solid 5.5Mbps connection...

and the bypass of the swear filter will get you booted off this forum sharpish - grow up...

Re: Second night of snail-like speeds

More normal this morning, although speedtest.net says about 4.4mbps whereas thinkbroadband and skyuser say 6.5...

[Edit: Speedtest now normal, ie. 6.8.]

I am aware of the problems with speedtesters, but I had previously determined that thinkbroadband and speedtest.net were reasonably reliable, and they usually gave very similar results.

Regardless of these problems, however, my speed has been noticeably down, and I confirmed this by doing my own testing from a site I have that has a lot of .wav files on it (of my own music, not illegal stuff!). Downloading a large 70Mb .wav file gives you a good indication of speed.

(Tiredeyes, as far as I can make out what you're on about, your situation is not much like mine, which may well be due to a problem with my particular setup. Besides, if you start your own thread you will get more focussed attention on your own problem).

Re: Second night of snail-like speeds

your stats show nothing at all wrong, and downloading around 6.5Mbps is about right for sync speed so not sure what your issue is? what transfer rate do you get HERE?...

Re: Second night of snail-like speeds

The issue is that in 3 nights during the last week my speeds have dropped to well below 1Mbps. It isn't just the speedtesting sites telling me that, it's very noticeable that internet access is very slow during these periods.

Things have been back to normal in the morning (which might suggest that it's turning the computer off that does the trick, but I've already tried that). Sometimes -- like last night -- they got back to normal after a few hours of slowness.

The stats I posted were mainly from overnight when things were back to normal. I'm glad they're okay. I will post some stats again from a period when the internet slows down again (if it does).
