Brought a wireless card for my p.c...

Hi, well i've brought a 54mbps wireless card for my p.c that's in my bedroom upstairs (router is downstairs in the living room).

I'm on "upto 16mb" with Sky yet i'm hardly getting 1mb from them? I was with AOL a few months ago geting 4mb since with sky wireless or wired I can't get over 1mb any idea why?

Settings on my router are g only (for 54mpbs) that's right?

How can I improve my speed with Sky because it's pointless paying for "upto 16mb" and reciving not even 1mb. Either i'm doing something wrong here or Sky fail as an ISP.

Thinking of going to Be my friend lives 6 doors up the road and he's getting 8mb

      Thanks for your help

No they are not your stats, they are your details.

Re: Brought a wireless card for my p.c...

I think a call to sky complaining of slow speeds is required. Your nm is not high which it would be if you were capped, your att should support around 16meg. One thing that looks wrong is the stats report you on adsl2, I would expect to see adsl2+. You have very few errors but the router has not been on long. Give them a call tonight about 10 -11 when they are quietish and ask to be put thru to CST.
Edit - It is possible you are being dlm'd, for what reason, if you are, with those stats is beyond me.

Sounds complicated to me lol, but yea Sky are riping me off? I rang them befor saying my speed it pathetic, they said "it shows our end your running at arround 9mb" .... yea looks that way

I'll just ring them , tell them they either sort my speed out or i'll find custom else where because there support is about as much use as a a windom wiper on a sumbarine!

      Thanks for your help guys!

Edit, so what would I say on the phone? :P

Re: Brought a wireless card for my p.c...

Before you ring sky and tell them your connection is slow can you tell us where you are plugged into, how many sockets are on the line, are any extension leads in use and have you got filters on all telephone sockets in use?
Also when you do call Sky make sure you are on ethernet as it will speed up the trouble shooting. If possible put the router on your main socket or test socket before calling in as it will also take time off the call.

Re: Brought a wireless card for my p.c...

Ive got 2 phone sockets one downstairs and one upstairs in my bedroom. Both have a filter on. I've used both sockets upstairs and downstairs wired (with an extention to my p.c upstairs and with my p.c down stairs with no extension) and wireless both are roughly the same speed.

I rang Sky, they said my line is perfect i'm getting arround 6mb so they say. So please oh please tell me why it shows my end i'm at less than 1mb because them usless muppets sure as hell can't.

I think it would be easyer to pay the 5 extra and go to Be or the same price and go back to my old ISP where I was getting roughly 5mb?
