Opinions on my stats - Am I capped

      Hi,

Having done a bit of reading on this forum, I have gone away and collected some stats. I would like opinions on them with regard to the following questions :-

      (1) Am I being capped by Sky? I am on the max package but seem to reliably sync at 8096 with an upload of 768. I have seen other threads where people see the same and have successfully been uncapped. I am on G.DMT (as shown by the stats) rather than ADSL2+ so guess I would need to be changed over? Do my stats support this theory? Should I be trying to get faster speeds out of my connection?

For information I am approx 1km from the exchange.

      (2) I have had zero problems with my connection to date (approx a year) with no disconnections etc. Is pursuing faster speeds as above risky in your opinion? Am I likely to end up with a slightly faster connection but numerous problems etc?

      (3) I have previously always had my router connected to a phone socket upstairs. Since deciding to persue my connection speeds further last week, I have tried my router downstairs (using powerline to connect to my pc upstairs) to see how the stats compare. I have posted both sets of stats below. Could I have your opinions on whether it makes any difference which socket I am using (to me it doesn't look like it does). I realise the main socket (downstairs) is probably the recommended one but it is a lot easier/tidier for me to keep the router upstairs so if difference is none/minimal I will keep it upstairs.

      Thanks in advance guys

Yes, you're on G.DMT and capped at 8096kbps.

Looking at your line stats (max rate, noise margin, errors etc) you would achieve a much higher sync speed uncapped on ADSL2+.

Re: Opinions on my stats - Am I capped

good luck asking for adsl2+ iwas put on g.dmt cst say Bt stated maximum my line would handle was 3mb finally got upgraded asked for upgrade 3 times finally said test it for 2 weeks if line unstable regrade back, 1.5k from exchange sync at 16379kbps attenuation 28db niose at 10db attain 13.8mb to 14.1 mb constantly

so with your stats you should achieve similar if not higher speeds

Re: Opinions on my stats - Am I capped

Thanks guys. I'll put in a call with sky to try and get switched over

Any opinions on my upstairs/downstairs query? Does it make any difference looking at my stats?

TBH if it is causing you no problems at the minute then use it up stairs as the stats look pretty much the same but if you ever have a problem try moving it downstairs before you do anything else.

the best socket is usually the master socket or the first point of entry socket the bt cable is connected to from outside your home

but your stats are not so indifferent to each other
