      System Up Time: 1:20:29

I'm not sure how far I am from the exchange, how can I check? The biggest issue for me really is the network speeds but they are both pathetic really

      Hi, and welcome

First things first, how are you setup? The SNR would indicate BT have capped the line at present, and the upstream is half the normal speed seen on Connect. How long have you been with Sky? If it's within the first 10 days there is a training in period but I can't see how this would make it SO low...

If you have a test socket, try connection there and you'd be looking for a connection around 3-4Mbps, with upload speed of 448kbps...

Outside capping won't impact internal network speeds so have you any firewalls running on the pcs?

Re: Slow internet and slow network

Its a new house on a new estate and there is only one socket so i assume this is the test/master socket?

What do you mean by how am i set up? I've just got my router connected to phone line through filter and then two pcs wired to the router. One PC is ubuntu and the other is vista. I'll try disabling firewalls if running but I doubt this would be the issue here, it seems more like the switch running slow.

I've been with SKY a about 2-3 weeks

Re: Slow internet and slow network

setup meaning how the router was plugged in. as you only have one socket then you should be ok setup wiese unless you're using plugin extentions, which are pretty much a big no no...

if you have split across the front of the master socket there should be a test socket behind it...it could be, though, that BT have inadvertently capped the line down...

Re: Slow internet and slow network

Yes i have a split across the socket, so do i just unscrew that and then there will be my test socket?

If BT have capped my line down, what can I do?

Plug into the test socket, let the router run a while and post a set of stats from the test socket so we can compare them.

Re: Slow internet and slow network

IF BT have capped it, then Sky will have to get them to start the training again...

if speed goes up in the test socket you have a dodgy faceplate, and investing in a filtered one would be the way to go. bare in mind, though, that any changes to the line - regardless of sync speed increase - will take 3 days to adjust...

From the test socket, not much difference:

      System Up Time: 0:03:33
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1164 1059 0 0 0 0:02:47
      LAN 3004 2935 0 0 0 0:03:33
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:03:11
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 576 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 57.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 27.3 db 27.0 db
