Re: Very Very slow download speeds
would this cap be why im only seeing 400kps?
ive tried 3 different speed test sites & they are saying the same speed.
if it is capped, can i get it removed? also, they said as ill running approx 5mtr ext cable from my master socket to the router, it should speed up after 48hrs if i go wireless & plug router straight into the master socket, is this right?

Re: Very Very slow download speeds
Can you post your stats with the router in the master socket please,
idealy you should keep router in the master socket and use a 5m ethernet
cable instead wireless should be a last option really as it has its own set of
issues
Also is your phone line sorted now, there is no point calling sky to remove
speed caps if you have any noise on your line otherwise you will end up with
dropouts.

Does this help in diagnosing? why do they cap people & can i get this lifted?
- 03-07-08, 09:02 PM #14
Re: Very Very slow download speeds
It seems to me you had or still have a line issue, if your sure the
line is okey now keep the router in the main socket and call sky
They have probably capped the line when you called last to try to
give you a stable connection, but going from your stats if you leave
the router where it is and have no intermittent line noise then with
the cap lifted you should get around 3-4mb

Will sky remove the cap if i ask them or will they keep it on there due to trafiic etc?
- 04-07-08, 02:27 PM #16
Re: Very Very slow download speeds
You really need to call them and complain your speed has dropped
you might have DLM ongoing on that line at the moment which would
explain the speed changes
So call Sky make sure you make it clear that the router is in the test
socket fight your way to CST and see if they will set your target noise margin
to around 7db
and call between 4-11 as theres more uk agents working

Re: Very Very slow download speeds
Ive just moved my master socket to where the line comes into the house with a faceoff box. i cant use the test socket on it though for some reason as my cable has 5 wires, my dads one is just connected with a solid orange wire & one solid blue wire. ive connected all 4 of them to the bottom half which you can remove.
this is now what ime getting:

Is this getting any better? ive also put my router going to the master socket with my phone & running wireless to the pc upstairs.
i know im a pain, but i do appreciate your help. btw, the old master socket didnt have a removable faceplate but was also connected using all the wires.
thanks

Re: Very Very slow download speeds
If I understand you have connected the incoming cables to the faceplate
not to the A&B terminals thats bad, have you bought a new NTE5 master socket?
if so you need to find the active two cables on the BT cable and connect them to the A&B terminals these will be the cables
you have in 2 and 5 in the faceplate then remove the other cables from the faceplate as there unusedLast edited by dsldude; 05-07-08 at 09:34 PM.

Re: Very Very slow download speeds
sorry, i realised what i put. i have connected just 2 cables to A & B screw points. i now can use the test socket if i need to. is this correct? teh cables are not slolid colours. i have connected the Blue iwth white bits to one point & a white one with blue bits to teh other (i think)
Just done an online speed test & its showing 3mbs. could this be a result of DLM action on my line? my router still show 3.5mbs. i also have a crystal clear phone line too, i used to get a hissing sound throught the call.

Re: Very Very slow download speeds
Sounds like your winning now, lets have 1 more lot of router
stats, it certainly sounds like you have the wiring right now
if you dont have any extensions connected to the faceplate
then the master socket is fine you wont need to leave it in
test socket permanentlyLast edited by dsldude; 05-07-08 at 11:28 PM.
