      noisy line

      Hi

      i have been getting disconnects with gaming, i have just put on the new sky firmware so mayhap this will help, however in the meantime am just wondering if these stats are bad, if they are, do i need to get sky to slow me down, and if they are "on the cusp" what is the minimum line quality you can get away with.

      I wish i could plug into the master socket to see if that helps..... but after opening up my main phone socket, i dont have one... is this something i can get BT to fix, and if so woudl they charge me?

      many thanks

      Mike

      Re: noisy line

      I guess as youve upgraded the router fw that you are using the V1 router. If so use this to get the detailed router stats http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...1-03-87-a.html
      You may be able to get bt to change the master socket if your voice calls are noisy, dont mention bb problems tho or they wont want to know.

      Re: noisy line

      Yep you definately got alot of line errors:
      SF = 421205
      CRC = 1657

      If you haven't got a test socket try opening the main socket again and check there are only wires connected to pins 2 and 5 any additional ones especially an orange one connected to pin 3 can causes problems, do the same in any other sockets you have in the house as well. This was the cause of all my problems 12 months ago.

      Re: noisy line

      ok will do that tonight. i had no problems with my demon 8meg line, so if they do end up cutting my line bandwidth hopefully they wont have to cut it back to less than that.

      incidently if any others are wired up can i just cut them without messing anything up?>

      Re: noisy line

      All you really need to do is remove the wires connected to "3" at the master socket. If you want you can go around all your sockets and disconnect everthing but the connections to 2 and 5 it's up to you

      Re: noisy line

      Combined with the capactor in the master socket, it was and sometimes still is used to allow phones to ring (or beep or whatever) The problem with it is that it causes an unbalance in the balanced pair working of telephone circuits and makes them more prone to the effects of electrical noise.
      You can do without it when you have BB because the plug-in filters allow the phones to work, and avoid the unbalance problems.

      done

      (and my phone still rings) - 3 and 4 were wired up.

      only connected 2 mins ago so too soon to be sure but it has initially connected at 16383kps which is quicker than last night and at moment noise margine is at 7.5db after 5 mins... will post full specs in a few hrs if you dont mind and see if you think they are any better.

      thanks so much
