Max connection speed/Sky box
Hello,
I'm on the Sky Max broadband package and usually manage a connection speed of around 6000kb/s with my router at the wrong end of a load of extension cables. I've just tried moving the router closer to the main telephone socket in the house, and the connection speed increases by around 1000kb/s. However, I've noticed that unplugging my sky box from the telephone line increases the connection speed by a further 200kb/s or so.
I know this isn't much, but it does indicate to me that the sky box is affecting the connection quality. What happens if I leave the sky box unplugged from the telephone line? Also, there's a single microfilter on the line, with 2 telephones and the sky box behind it - is this an ok setup, or should each device have its own microfilter? On a side note, the genius Sky technician that installed the sky box originally never even put a microfilter between the line and the box. I spent 4 days wondering why my (then 4mb) connection was only connecting at 200kb/s (I'm amazed it even synced).
Thanks.

Re: Max connection speed/Sky box
Personally, I found that mine was better with the "Sky" extension plugged straight into the line then microfilters into each end of it, one for the phone at the master socket end, and one for the sky box in the living room.
An even better fix is to get the master replaced with an NTE5 and hard wire the extension to its faceplate, or even better still to an XTE-2005 faceplate from adslnation.

Re: Max connection speed/Sky box
my sky digibox isnt connected to telephone and it has no effect you just cant order payperview programs like sky boxoffice or some sportevents or enter competitions through interactive or red-button but my sky box works perfectly well i dont order payper-view etc
i used to use sky extention line with another extention plugged into it for my old braodband modem i only used 1 filter and it was between extention end and modem

Re: Max connection speed/Sky box
Thanks for the replies, I think I'll just leave the thing unplugged as I never use it to buy films or anything that actually requires the connection.

Re: Max connection speed/Sky box
you do have to keep the box connected for the first year.

Re: Max connection speed/Sky box
it forms part of your sky TV contract (you can unplug after the years contract is up)
but if you had sky TV for a year before you got the BB it would not matterLinks
