What to expect from Sky Max service
Hi,
Just signed up with Sky BB. All is good so far I think, but I'm curious to know what sort of download speed I should expect. Ran the speed test on this site and it said 5558kb download. Ran the tool on Speedtest.net and it said 43761kb. How many mb's is that and what should it be? My line stats are;
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16381 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db
TIA

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
you should be seeing about 14000+ on a wired connection...i assume you're wireless or running off an extention?

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, currently using a wired connection via an extension cable. Got BT coming over tomorrow to fit an extension socket. Hopefully that will improve things.
How do you calculate how many MB's from 43761kb?
TIA

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
BT fixing an extention will more likely add to the issues - keep the router in your master socket with a filtered faceplate if possible and run longer cables to you PC or use powerline adapters...

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
your connection is fine (good) to the router, you may have issues on your PC
could you post the speed test results you had (from skyuser and speed test)
i may suggest you try the last link in my sig (PC optimizer) but would just like to check your speed tests
(Note: pc optimizer will not help if you have vista, but may help if you use XP)Links

Speedtest said 41294kbs & 537kbs while the SkyUser tool says 5904kbps (current site average is 5927kbps for Sky Max) Upload test is still running (ie. not working for me at the moment)
Currently running Vista so PC Optimizer isn't an option ;-(

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
i think speedtest.net must be on the blink!!
as for SkyUser one - still far too low...-------------------------------------------

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
Funny thing is I just downloaded a file via a Download Manager and it averaged out @ 1143.7 kbytes/s
Also ran the tool on SkyUser again and it said;
Your download speed is 5920Kbps. That is 7Kbps below the average for your package
Your upload speed is 592Kbps. That is 68Kbps above the average for your package
Why can't these tools use MB's? It would make things so much easier.....

Re: What to expect from Sky Max service
the file via your download manager is about right for your connection so ignore speed tests - they're flaky at the best of times...
another one you can try though is the one i have listed on my sig - its a real world download file (go for large) and you should be over 1000KB/sec (1MB/sec)-------------------------------------------
