Speed is not as good as it used to be
Hi, i am on the Max package and i used to get about 2.5mb downstream on my connection but now it seemed to have degraded and i ran a speed test and found i know have a speed of about 1.8mb.
Any ideas on what i can do to get a better speed? The computer i did the speed test on is connected to the router (not wireless)
I notice when people have similar problems they post stats. Where can i get these?
Thanks

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
have a look at the second link in my sig for the stats (may be worth posting your detailed stats, look for the mognuts utility)
most of the time, problems like this can be traced to the internal wiring, once you have posted your stats, could you do a comarison set of stats from the "test" socket (see first link in my sig)Links

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
It looks line the line has been capped at just over 2 mbps but even at the indicated max of ~3 mbps it is still low for your attenuation, which has a potential of up to ~8 mbps.
Do you have ADSL filters plugged into every extension on the line, including Sky digiboxes? Can you connect the router to your master or test socket and post stats again? Internal wiring is probably the cause of your problem.

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
could you do a set of comparison stats from your test socket.
i would think it is your extentions/internal wiring holding you back, i have an attenuation of 40/41 but sync much higher than you (i plug directly into my test socket)Links

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
My PC is pretty far from my Master socket. Can i connect to it using an extension cable?
And yes i have micro filters on all phone sockets. They all seem to be working, i don't get disconnected when the phone rings e.t.c

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
^^^ Yes, you can use an extension lead but it may not prove a lot as the extension itself could pick up as much noise as the extension wiring is doing.
One thing that may be worth a try is to disconnect any wires from terminal 3 of your master socket, particularly if your extension cabling is long. This "ring cable" is a known source of interference and is not required as your ADSL filters are performing its function.
Watch the SNR when the ring cable is disconnected. If it rises then you have immediately removed a source of noise and can think about getting the cap removed or upped.

Re: Speed is not as good as it used to be
Ive noticed the fall in speeds also. I went from around 2meg/3meg to about 1.5 now. So about the same as you.
