Not even going to try going to main socket as i've been fine upstairs for best part of a decade, including last week on the very same ISP and package, so can safely rule it out unless naughty torrents eat through copper

have a look in the cabling and faceplate forum for people who thought the same, also without doing the comarison from the "test" socket there is no real way to determin where (if any) your problem may be.

Extension cables are the worst thing ever for a connection i work for sky and i spend all day telling people to remove there extension cables even people with no internet light get connected when they remove there extension cables and by the way extension cables are like a fuse they burn away until there is nothing left. so yes they do degrade and so does your bt phone line.

And another thing you technical support at sky can do nothing for you if you do not remove extension cables eg. if they tryed to log a fault to bt and you had that extension in bt would laugh at it and send it back.

Re: Speed Dropping From Sky BB Activated

Edit: Tell a lie, installed brand new cabling and box last year, forgot lol, it's sound, deleted above.

Anyway, how in the hell are you now supposed to sue an extension cable unless you use your PC in the bloody kitchen?

My PC's are upstairs like most peoples, my socket is downstairs like most peoples. Even if my PC was downstairs, id STILL need an extension socket unless i wanted my PC in the stairs? i mean really...

Re: Speed Dropping From Sky BB Activated

Sorry for the spam, but checked all my cabling, rebooted router and disabled UPnP.

Now, havent used this program before, but the sky speed tester on this website says:

Your download speed is 4696Kbps. That is 392Kbps above the average for Sky
Your upload speed is 314Kbps. That is 87Kbps below the average for Sky

Which is great. Going to do some more tests now. Maybe i've had a few days of crap?

      Thinkbroadband also says:

      Speed Down 3122.94 Kbps ( 3 Mbps )
      Speed Up 321.75 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
      Port 8095
      Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Seems the exchange was being a poo again. It's perfectly what my line supports now. Sorry for hassling the thread guys, hopefully it was a blip and thanks for the tips.

Least it weren't my line heheheheh!

you can either connect wirelessly or get a longer ethernet cable instead of using an extension.

Re: Speed Dropping From Sky BB Activated

      hi all
i have had same problem with my download speed since changeing to sky
my 10th day is up today, and i am worryed about my speed.
before i went to sky i was getting 5-6.5mb, which i know my line can handle, as bt did a test from my house.
nothing has changed on my 7pc's, even tryed with just 1 pc, cannot get a speed over 2mb down and 340 up
i use wired lan, and even tryed my own routers as i ended up getting my username and password to use my own router, just in case it was sky's router at fault.
i pay full wack for my internet not the 5, i pay 20...
so want to know if i am still not happy in a week if i have the right to cancle, as i will be in contract.
but will be very unhappy getting 2mb internet @20, when i can get 2mb from else where for around 5..
      my router stats are:-

      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 5152 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5152 kbps 448 kbps

Line Attenuation 39 db 21 db

Noise Margin 15 db 22 db

but yet cannot get over 2mb download
so a lot of loss somewhere
and cannot be all 7 pc's and 4 routers i have tryed.
even borrowed a pc and router off a friend
      still get same
2mb down on any speed test i do
      any idea??

my test as i see them:-

you are on the connect service, which is a rebranded bt product, so your problems are either contention/throttling or you have an internal wiring issue or it could be a combination of both (bad internal wiring resulting in your bras profile being set at 2meg)
