      Hi Neiledmonds.
Could you just comfirm that with the faceplate removed and the test socket exposed, all other sockets in your home have no dial tone, and any alarm panel that you may have is also disconnected from the phone line with the faceplate removed.

Re: Very Slow speed on Sky connect. Please Help

      Hi Brian.
Have checked all the other sockets and for some strange reason there is a dial tone. The main bt box(with test point) is in my kitchen but seems to have no extensions onto it. There is another normal bt box near my front door and has the extension for the upstairs box. I can seem to see where the cable comes from on the one next to my front door. Forgive my stupidness but have just moved in so dont really know where stuff is or leads to

      Hi Neil.
O.k just to be clear, with the face plate removed, the only socket that should work is the test socket at the master. If others are working then you are the victim of a DIY bodge up. I don't know how you feel about putting this right your self?, but if you want to have a crack at it, post back.

O.k. First off all the usual stuff about not messing about with the master socket applies.
You will first need to find out where the line enters your home.
You will then need to move the NTE5 master from the kitchen to this point and connect A and B on the back of the master to the incoming line.
At this point only the test socket should work and you can do a sync test (you should now see a big increase in speed, or a large increase in snr margin if you have been capped). check also that the test socket is the only one working.
To re-connect your extensions, connect the wires to the faceplate

2 on the faceplate to 2 on all extensions
      5 5
      3 3

You can move the socket in the hall to replace the one in the kitchen.

This is the basic plan and you will have to see how the wires run in your own home.

when you have got everthing working, remove the wire that connects to 3 at the master faceplate and ensure that all phones have a filter, don't forget the sky box.

Got you. The one in the hall is the true master. this is the one you will have to swap with the one in the kitchen. The two terminals in the pic are the A and B ones.
Now if you are still game to have a go, then you need to buy a couple of IDC insertion tools, they are very cheap and you can get them anywhere that sells phone bits. Your incoming line looks like the one that comes up through the window sill.

Re: Very Slow speed on Sky connect. Please Help

      hi brian
bought a IDC insertion tool and swapped boxes. I havnt connected the upstairs phone extension as im not going to use it. Connected my pc to the downstairs new main box in the hall.(into the test point) there is no change at all. Not sure where to go from here really.
Everytime i try to access my detailed router stats with Mognuts link it just says unable to connect to internet etc. But the connection is ok on the rest of the net

Re: Very Slow speed on Sky connect. Please Help

O.k As long as the test socket is the only one working when you are connected to it to do the sync, then the problem is not in your internal wiring. Is there any noise on the phone line (crackles pops etc) when you listern at the test socket with a corded phone?
