Hi there, Ive been a sky max customer for about 9 months now and never really looked into why my connection speeds are so poor. My upload seems to stay at a steady 400-500 on speedtests, but my download never gets to 3000.

Ive tried using the router with every phone socket in the house and never gotten any better results. Ive used wireless and wires and got the same speed.

So is it just my line thats bad or is there something I could do... Or that Sky can do?

      Thanks.

its just your phone line, try using it in the test socket behind the master socket, but other than that probably not much can be done...

if you havent noticed a problem in 9 months it sounds like its not much of an issue anyway

      Re: Sky max this slow?

I noticed it, I just never did anything about it. I was only on 1meg before, so this was, as be it a small one, an upgrade.

Ive started getting gradually more concerned after reading the forums also. I didnt relise just how good a speed you guys are getting compared to mine.

Sky assured me that Id be getting atleast 4meg... which id be pleased with.

Ill try connecting with the electricions socket tomorrow because it means Ill have to move my PC near it. I dont think itll make much difference though.

Is there no way to upgrade the phone line?

      Oh well.

So this is basically as fast as its going to get?

Which is pretty poor when Sky quoted me between 4 and 8 meg.

      Re: Sky max this slow?

some of the problems may be down to your internal wiring, or you may just have a bad line.
the maximum your line would give you is about 4 (with a perfect line)
have a read of the 3 link in my sig which gives a great breakdown of the things which affect your conection

as mentioned before, if you could do a comparison set of stats from your "test" socket (see first link in my sig) then post back some new stats

(if you have the white netgear router, you could also post you detailed stats which will show any errors and may give more details as to your speed)

      Re: Sky max this slow?

      Hi Nik.
Do have a look at how your line performs at the test socket. I know that this may involve a bit of domestic disturbance, but it is worth it. You may be supprised and get a speed increase, and have internal wiring problems.
At the very least you will know that set-up is performing as well as your line will let it.
