      What might I get?

Am in process of changing to Sky Broadband. Speeds were slow with my previous ISP where I was on ADSL Max.

My Attenuation is 55Db and my Noise Margin is 8.5Db. What sort of speeds might I expect with Sky Broadband...I will be going onto Sky MAX.

      Thanks

      TC

      DSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 4mb to 5mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This is a rough guide only, and provides results of up to 24mb with the data made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Speed that you will receive on any ISP's product. Due to the fact that your Telephone Line does not run in a straight line from the Exchange, the Distance from Exchange figures, are interpreted as if your Telephone Line is that exact length. In reality, it is highly unlikely that this is the case.

Many thanks for that NewreadeR. I shall be very happy if I were to achieve those speeds!

With your high line attentuation, unless you want the unlimited download service, it might be better to go have gone for the mid package

      Re: What might I get?

I'm in the process of changing providers too.

I'm currently on AOL Silvers (up to 2megs getting 512mbps at all times even off-peak).

If I apply for SKY MAX what speeds should I expect? I presume these are GOOD stats to have by looking at everyone elses.

      Sync: Downstream: 576kbps / Upstream: 288kbps.
Line Attenuation: Downstream: 14 db / Upstream 3lb.
Noise Margin: Downstream: 31 db / Upstream 31 db.

I checked DSL Zone UK...and it quoted an estimate of 16megs on a ADSL2+ service. I'd be quite happy to get into double figures.

You got it in one - I went for unlimited download!

Also, as I have said, if I can get 4 or 5 Mb I will be well pleased. Anything in excess would be a bonus.

      Re: What might I get?

      AOL are unbelievable.

I told them they'd better give me greater speeds for my low line attenuation...and high SNR. They dont know what the problem is.
Or as one person posted way back: "It's just AOL being...er...AOL."

      Quite right I think.

They want me to ring up to get a line test done. Quite frankly I dont want to give them anymore of my money for the net or calls. I know AOL are capping my speeds. I'm going to cancel in a fortnight. Yey!

I've switched off my router (after leaving it on for 5 days) and disconnected all other external items (Xbox 360). Went into my router stats which reset every 5secs and I'm still getting...

576 kbps (no change) down....288 kbps up.
Line Att: 14 db down....3db up.
      Noise Margin: 31 db ....31db.

      There is NO CHANGE"!!!

I even had someone insult me on 'thinkbroadband' forum professing to know-it-all & telling me my SNR being 31 db/31 db (i.e: the SAME) was suspicious. And that it being that high WAS BAD!!! Oh puh-lease. LOL

I think with those figs...SKY MAX seems very appitising (well compared to AOL anytihng is).
