Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

      Hi All,

I received a letter from sky today telling me I've been upgraded from the (BT) connect package to the Mid package but if I go to do a speed test I'm actually getting slightly worse results than I was with connect & the info displayed tells mew I'm still with easynet??? I was getting about 100 Kb/s faster both up & down with the connect package. SNR has gone up a wee bit, line attenuation remains the same.

Looking at my stats (bellow) Can anyone tell me if I have indeed been upgraded & If it would be worth my while upgrading to the max package?

      THANKS!!!

      These are my stats:-

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

Your stats show you're on Mid now.

Quite unusual to get lower download speeds on Mid than on Connect (upload speed may be lower as the default sync is lower).

Please post your speedtest results using Skyuser's tester. You should be getting ~6500kbps with your sync.

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

      Staturday,

First off, Sorry about the double post!! I posted then left it for a while & couldn't find the thread when I logged back in?? I checked to see if I had any threads open & it showed none? So I went & retyped the whole thing again. Very odd!! Was not intended as a double post!! Just though that I must not have clicked the sbmit reply tab by mistake!!

      Anyway,

according to my speed test results, I'm getting 5224Kbps down & only 229Kbps up?? I was getting about 6100Kbps down & 386Kbps up.

Spped test still tells me I'm on Easynet? Thought that it was only connect users that were on Easynet?

What do you think? Is it in learning mode or something?

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

Both your download and upload speeds are low for your sync. Is that wired?

Why you'd get a better speed on Connect (and all else is the same) I can't really say. There's no training period on Sky Mid.

There are only so many reasons why throughput would be low in relation to sync:
      • poor wireless connection (though that would affect Connect in the same way)
      • incorrect TCP/IP settings (ditto)
      • slow speedtest server (shouldn't be an issue with Skyuser)
      • gross line errors (you have errors but they're not bad enough to cause this)
      • something else using the bandwidth (e.g. Sky anytime, another LAN user, malware etc)

I leave saturday to answer the technical stuff, however easynet is skys network they bought easynet prior to launching sky broadband.
Also there is no training period for any llu package ie base, mid or max.

      ^^^ there you go

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

Hi Peeps, No wireless connections, everthing is hardwired & nothing has even been moved.

I'd like to upgrade to the max package, would it be worth my while?

Just tried a router reboot to see if that would make any difference. still the same but I did notice that the I for internet didn't go orange & then back to green untill after the router reeboot progress bar had already got to 100% Usually it has finished rebooting before the progress bar reached 100% Don't know if that tells you anything?

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

I upgraded from connect to MAX and have changed no settings:

      Connect:-
      DownStream Connection Speed 6144 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

      MAX:
      Downstream Connection Speed 7006 kbps
      Upstream Connection Speed 764 kbps

Conclusion why did I bother to pay an extra fiver compared to Connect?????

The first link in saturdays signature gives a table of expected sync speeds for attenuation. As to whether its worth your while, only you can decide but you should see a significant increase for 5 extra and your upload speed is doubled on max.
Dont know about the reboot thing - cant remember the last time I had to do it

Post your router stats as they will show if more is possible.

Re: Sky Tell me I've been upgraded from connect to the Mid package?

Just tried running a test with speedtest.net, getting 6973 Down & 305 up with them?? Up is still lower that it used to be with connect!! Used to be 385 up every time. Still getting 5256 Down & 231 Up using the speed tester linked to this site?

Looking at my line attenuation, I should be good for pretty much the full 16Meg package but I'd like to be sure I don't end up paying for nowt like Ossie above.
