      Problems receiving better downlaod speeds

      Hi

Just thought I would post my story and see what anyone thought.

I got Sky BB initially back in March 2007 and was on the 8Mb package (LLU) I initially had problems with the speed and was only getting around 3Mb connection. The strange thing was my router was saying I was connected at 8Mb.

I did a load of fiddling about and eventually called Technical support and they just couldn't figure out why there was a discrepancy in speed. I was passed a 3rd line agent and he decided to increase my speed to 10Mb to see if that helped. This did indeed help and my router showed connection of 10Mb but my actual download speed was now hitting around 5-6Mb. After a while he eventually set my line speed to 12.5Mb which was confirmed on my router and my actual download was around 6-7Mb so I was happy with that.

After seeking some help from friends at work they said I should try a tool called TCPIP Optimizer, after running this tool my actual line speed shot up to the full 12.5Mb which was fantastic. Being a rebel I decided not to call Sky back and my connection stayed at 12.5Mb and i was being billed for the 8Mb.

Then through fault of my own i was late paying my BT bill and subsequently got disconnected and had to get my line reconnected which in term caused my Broadband account to be cancelled and I had to sign up as a new customer, knowing I was getting 12.5Mb OK i signed up for BB MAX 16Mb.

When my line was activated my speed was set at 8Mb and i was getting 8Mb, on checking with technical support my line now is only capable of handling 8Mb max, when they tried to increase it the line errors and drops out. I explained what happened before and ask surely i should be able to get at least 12.5Mb and now they are saying no.

What's worst is that they said that my line was never able to handle 12.5Mb and it never will and conveniently they don't have a record of my call I made to technical services which would prove that my line was set at a much higher rate.

I guess I'm asking if anyone has had a similar issue. I'm stuck now because I know my line can handle a much higher speed but Sky are are refusing and even denying that it can and BT are no help as they aren't my broadband provider. Any comments greatly appreciated.

It may be that your line is now connected differently at the exchange as it may well have been unplugged when BT stopped your line.

Re: Problems receiving better downlaod speeds

That's fair enough, however my line is syncing at 8096 but I'm only getting 3Mb download, I've tried Tcpoptimizer, can anything think of a way for me to get downloads nearer to my 8Mb connection ?
