Day 7 of new connection - anyone have a crystal ball?
Hi,
Am on the first day of the 10-day trial with Sky Connect. We've been connected for a few hours now, these are the stats, can anyone give an indication of where we'll be in 10-days time please?
Current Stats :
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2752 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 21.0 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 8.0 db
Am just about understanding what all the elements mean, but any advice / info would be greatfully received.
Thank you.
(PS. am quite happy with a 2mb speed, but wondered what we may expect).Last edited by BoriVT; 15-01-08 at 07:13 PM.

Re: Day 1 of new connection - anyone have a crystal ball?
line has a lot more to give...you running off an extention? if so, use you master/test socket and see if sync improves...

Re: Day 1 of new connection - anyone have a crystal ball?
It's a brand-new house, so not in the main socket, in a socket in a different room - so an extension of sorts, even though it's a brand-new internal one!
How does the training go, I read the guide but am still a little uncertain - will it go up gradually? Or up and down?
Thanks again, your response is much appreciated.

regardless of a new build - it is still prob at fault. stick it in your test socket (which i assume you have) and see what happens...
as for the training in - i assume it goes up and down...i really cant comment as i dont remember what happened to me...-------------------------------------------

Re: Day 1 of new connection - anyone have a crystal ball?
During the 10 day training period your router will go up and down in speed. It has been advisable to reboot your router onec a day for 3 days during this time so that it sync's at the maximum possible.
As has been mentioned you would be better of to try the router in the master socket and especially in the test socket to see if your SNR improves, as incorrect or faulty wiring is often to blme for noise on the line.
Contrary to the post above, you do not need amicro filter on ALL sockets but rather more on all sockets that are in use. So if you use only the master socket and the 1 extension in the sitting room as an example then you owuld only need a microfilter on these two sockets.Regards,

Re: Day 1 of new connection - anyone have a crystal ball?
Hi,
Thanks for the responses to the previous!
Today have rebooted the router and the following stats are in play :
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1792 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 9.9 db 7.0 db
Noise margin increased, connection speed decreased.
What's the 'ideal' range for the noise margin? Are we looking at the higher the better?
Thanks again.
Will try to use the master socket at the weekend.

On advice, I've just checked - removed the openreach faceplate, tested it and it's comes back at virtually the same as above, so at least the wiring is fine.
Any more advice?
