Another help question with poor speeds
Hi Guys,
First post and im already asking for help! I never thought to check my speed and only came onto this site via google as I was looking how to transfer recordings from Sky+ to DVD.
Anyway, I did my speed checks.
Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed gives download speed 633kbps and upload 638kbps
http://192.168.0.1/system.htm with user admin and password sky gives:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 736 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 13.0 db
Im supposed to be on sky Max so this seems VERY low? Ive tried wireless and just tried wired and its the same?!
Any ideas? Sky put me on the wrong package? Anything else I can do? Surely it shouldnt be this low?

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
Your noise margin isn't great, any other telephone sockets in the property, if more than one have they all got a filter on them if anything is attached to the socket and what is the first thing physically plugged into the telephone socket that your adsl modem is connected to? Also are there any extension cables in use?
If all is connected correctly you need to call Sky technical support to be trouble shot for slow speed. When was the last time you rebooted the router?

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
I have one main phone socket. That has a filter on it. There is an extension which runs from the main socket which goes upstairs for my other sky box.
Extension cable is in use to run upstairs to sky box but the router is plugged into the main socket downstairs. Does the extension still cause problem?
Rebooted - is that simply the router switched off and on? Router is switched off every night anyway. Is there something else i need to do?

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
Does the extension plug into the filter at all? If not is the sky box plugged into a filter on the extension?

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
Paul, i think you could of helped!
I just went to the main phone socket and the filter wasnt in the main wall, it was in the extension. I have put it in the wall and then the extenstion into the filter and its come up with the following on wireless:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6240 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 13.0 db

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
Filter should always be the first thing on the socket if possible, nothing should be on the line without being filtered unless you use a pre-filteredd plate on the main socket.

Re: Another help question with poor speeds
Will remember that as we will be moving soon. Must of had it like this for about 12 months and never looked at it!
Does that seem right now or do you think its still low?
