Re: Help with poor download speeds please?
Hey again
Your downspeed sync to the exchange is significantly higher than the results you are getting from speedtest.net and so you should be able to make improvents on this speed.
However, your high line attenuation (due to your long wired distance from the exchange) means you will never get anywhere near the advertised speeds for max.
Are you connecting wirelessly or wired?
Also, am I right in thinking you mentioned you tweaked your TCP/IP settings on the other thread?
Last question, what colour is your router?

Re: Help with poor download speeds please?
Hi again!
Thanks for your reply.
I am connecting wirelessly and yes I did tweak my settings with tcp optimiser.
My router is the netgear one that came with sky - white with silver edging strip all around - ???
By the way, my speed does improve and then drop alot.

Re: Help with poor download speeds please?
To make sure this isn't a wireless issue, could you please connect through a wire and see if the speed increases?

wired test should show improvements,
out of interest where is your router plugged in (extention/master socket/test soclket?)Links

Re: Help with poor download speeds please?
Stats aren't too bad. Not a major ammount of errors. As richone says, a wired connection should yield an improvement. What sort of signal strength are you receiving on the wireless?

Re: Help with poor download speeds please?
I am getting fluctuating signal strengths, but this does not always reflect the download speed if you understand what I mean. My speed can be 11mbps with 3 out of 5 bars of connection on the signal strength, rated good, but the actual download speed on the pc can appear slow.
Sometimes, I do get full signal strength with excellent on the signal strength and other times, low with poor signal strenth. It can and does fluctuate continuously, and can drop from excellent to low within seconds.
I hope I have explained this ok?
