      Poor upload speeds on Mid

      Hi
I have been on Sky BB Mid for a couple of months now and my downstream connection is usually around 7232kbs giving me download speeds of around 6.2M. Which I am happy with. However my upstream link is 416kbs giving me an upload speed of around 345K which seems a bit low. The upstream noise margin is 13db and the line attenuation is 10.5db. Should I be getting a better upload speed than this?

416kbps is the upstream sync for Mid. Or was - seems that new Mid customers are getting 384kbps looking at some posts on the forum.

If you want more than 416kbps you'll have to upgrade to Max.

BTW - surely you took note of Mid speeds when you signed up?

      Hi Saturday

Thanks for your prompt response. Yes I was aware of the download speed and I' m happy with what I am getting. I just noted that when testing speed on Skyuser that it comments that my upload speed is quite a bit lower than the Sky average. Perhaps thats because there a re a lot of Max users contributing to the average?

I'd say so, yes. I mean, MAX, they say 764, it sure syncs are 764, but I only get 650 maximum, and that's relatively high! So your upload at the MID package is about right, if not pretty good!

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

Yep, sync speed and download speed aren't the same. The TCP/IP protocol carries a fairly high transmission overhead so typically you'd expect a throughput speed (upload/download) of a shade more than 80% of the sync speed.
