Re: seriously poor connection speed
Those are seriously strange stats, particularly the upload!
Have a look at post 3 in this thread. I don't think it is the same problem as yours but you never know whether the fix might work.
It appears that by changing your line condition you trick the exchange equipment into recalibrating it. Nothing to lose?

Re: seriously poor connection speed
I am connected via a quality extension cable (10 mtr) into the master socket. I know it's best to avoid extensions, but nothing has changed in the last year that I've had this system with no new cables or filters being usedLinks

Re: seriously poor connection speed
Thanks for your advice, I'll try them both tomorrow and report back. I can live with a poorish download of 2-3mb, but you're right, the upload is ridiculous! Plus the fact that SKY say they cannot do anything before whatever the BT problem is gets sorted...whenever the hell that may be.
Just checked my router, and I have done nothing whatsoever all day since I posted my previous stats, these are now the results:
System Up Time 10:24:52
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 58396 116992 0 223 2336 10:24:31
LAN 10M/100M 126039 67200 0 2416 272 10:24:50
WLAN 11M/54M 611 0 0 5 0 10:24:40
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2464 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 db 27.0 db
Noise Margin 16.6 db 9.0 db
That's what keeps happening

Re: seriously poor connection speed
Stranger and stranger. I believe the 15.5 db downstream attenuation is a known router firmware bug but the upload now looks normal. Definitely looks like a Connect (BT) issue.
EDIT: Looking at the router uptime it must have resync'd around midday today. Any clues in the log?Last edited by eyemdee; 06-01-08 at 11:41 PM. Reason: Addition

Re: seriously poor connection speed
No, nothing at all. Just my router reboot about half an hour before I took the stats i previously gave showing an upsteam of 64k, then my latest login which showed it had mysteriously fixed itself! See below.

Sun, 2008-01-06 22:37:31 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.2
I've since tried your suggestions eyemdee, but with no change to my 128k upload today! Thanks anyway. I've also just finished hauling my pc next to the BT socket and linked direct, again with no effect. At least it's 128 today....whoopee!

Re: seriously poor connection speed
Is your PC etc still on the test socket? If so call Sky Tech support while it is and get it looked at.

Re: seriously poor connection speed
There has been an issue with connect since December but I didn't think it was impacting speed just the ability to actually browse at all. Your issue isn't the one listed on our status page so you should be getting troubleshot for slow speeds as normal unless something else is going on at your exchange.
T1 aren't really supposed to be troubleshooting issues in browsing on connect but I would have thought that since you can browse and it's just a speed issue that you would be getting troubleshot as normal. Are you able to load pages on the connection or is everything timing out for you?

Re: seriously poor connection speed
No, normal web usage is fine. The only reason I even noticed a problem was when I was sending a 4mb email attachment and it was taking soooo long!
But when I called India...sorry, SKY Tech services yesterday, I explained about my upload speed and she just told me that there was nothing they could do while there was an unresolved BT problem etc.
