I remember last september when i signed on to the service that i got 7mb download and week after week the download speed became erratic and now it is an abysmal 0.1-0.5mb all the time!

i did phone up sky last year and they said my line was fine. i am running the router from the master socket. Microfilters are plugging into every socket. i even unplugged the telephone and sky+ box but this makes no difference to speed. Nor does plugging the router into the test socket.

I just dont get it... it appears i have got the perfect line. I am 500m from the exchange, the router tells me i am synced at 8mb. But i only get 0.1-0.5mb download and the weird thing is that upload speeds are totally unaffected- always around 350kbps since last sept. i am living in a rural area in mid wales and according to samknows.com only 148 homes are connected to the glandyfi exchange so the exchange can not possibly be congested.

so what could be causing this problem? i really need suggestions because this has been going on for months. actual download speeds are approaching dial speeds!!! Thanks...

Connect is a re branded BT service which suffers from contention/throttling
saying that it may be worth while phoning sky to see if they can get bt to do anything with your line (you used to have to speak to T2, but now i think you need to just get past T1 and speak to CST)

      Re: Connect... extremely frustrated!

there's nothing to suggest the line is an issue - the stats are perfect!! It could be throttling, or the IP profile might've gone a bit wrong....

what do you get from the speed test in my sig? (try the large file)

EDIT: also, give this a try - Test Result - the username is (your router MAC address)@sky.dsl if it asks...

that'll tell you your IP Profile

      thanks for the quick repsonse
speedtester.net had 556kbps download and 375kbps upload and i kept on getting test error when i entered my login at the BT speed tester site.

which mac address has to be input and in what format (there is the ADSL port and LAN port MAC addresses)

oh and and when i downloaded that large file the transfer rate was 25kbps and took 10 mins to complete

There should be sticker on the router that shows your MAC number

^ yeah, use the MAC (without punctuation) on the bottom of the router...although I assume it only asks for this is you're not a BT BB customer...

      Re: Connect... extremely frustrated!

i have tried repeatedly to login into BT speedtester and i can not get past the login screen. (mac address underneath the router)@sky.dsl

i did phone up sky tech support got through to tier 2 and they conducted BT wholesale diagnostics on the line. what they discovered was that the tests involvoing the IP profile or something similar to that was inconclusive.... could this (and the inability yo login into the BT speedtester) indicate some sort of problem?

sky have transferred the log to BT wholesale and will do tests on the exchage. hopefully they will find something... still getting below 0.5mb download

sounds about right - the IP Profile has probably got stuck low even though you sync high...

      Re: Connect... extremely frustrated!

is that the case? who has the authority to correct the IP profile? sky or BT wholesale?

do you reckon it is worth phoning sky to suggest that the IP profile is stuck or will BT pick it up when they do the checks?

have a look at this thread.
could be a similar problem and resolution ?

(may not be, but must worth a try)
