How long for Max to kick in?

      Hi everyone.

I've been on Base for about 3 months. Today (literally 15 minutes ago!) I upgraded to Max.

      My router stats are showing:
      Connection Speed: Down-15907 Up-764
      Attenuation: Down-28.0db Up-14.8db
      Noise Margin: Down 7.1db Up-12.5

So the connection speed is showing near enough the 16meg. However a speed test is telling me I have about a 4meg download speed.

The guy on the phone said it can take upto 5 days - so does this mean that in 5 days I'll get better download speeds or have I got an issue?

      Cheers,

      Kan

Re: How long for Max to kick in?

Ok, I've just done another speed test and my download speed has dropped to about 1meg!

I've run the TCPOptimizer to no avail.

      And I'm also wireless.

      Never this bad on base!

      Help me someone!

Re: How long for Max to kick in?

My download speed is actually fluctuating a bit, between 1meg and 4 meg.

So I called Sky up and they said that it can in fact take 72 hours for the change to go through, so I'll let you all know what happens in about 3 days time!

speed testers can be very unreliable and are generally contended. You would be better off downloading a large file, use some software like Getright and you will get a better picture of your actual speed.

I use FeedDemon to watch the threads in this forum, and only get the 1st post in each thread, so I'm thinking to myself, "how unreliable speed tests are...."

So rather than duplicate what you said, I'll agree with you whole-heartedly
FWIW I normally get about 8mb on a 10mb connection that is with an Attenuation of 31dB

i bet if you did a wired test you would get alot better, you could also try moving router/ariel to see if you get any better

move any dect phones out of the way

also have a look in the wirelss threads for some help

Re: How long for Max to kick in?

Personally, I would uninstall TCP Optimiser, Put the settings back to default. Then do all the testing, Wired and Wireless.
And then if required reapply the TCP tweaks.
