Speed has dropped off big time

I've just been having a look at my speed on my line, after watching the Gadget Show on five, and feeling smug about my speed (Last time it was running at 6.8mb on Mid) it's now dropped to 800kb on my wireless and 2.1mb on my wired connection.

I've run the optimiser that seems to work wonders for some people and it only picked it up by about 0.5mb, which seems like a natural variance, rather then a freeing of a bottle neck.

I've run the tests at speedtest.net and it's struggling to get up to 2mb at the moment. From what I've read the stats on my router suggest that it should be ok, espcially as I'm about 1.9km from the exchange. This is the stats page from my router:

Any help would be great thanks!

Re: Speed has dropped off big time

      1) you're on Connect. This is a highly contended service (i.e.. shared with other users) so speeds can vary considerably from time to time. BT also restrict the amount of available bandwidth available if being used for P2P (which includes BBC1/Sky Anytime as well as the usual suspects.

      2) You shouldn't take one set of results from one speedtest server as gospel. Try several and average the results. Two good ones are Skyuser's own speedtester and namesco. Both of these are more reliable than most.

      3) Your router is only achieving a fairly poor sync for your attenuation (not terrible but could be improved). This together with your fairly low noise margin (in relation to sync) points to a line noise problem. Fix this and you should sync higher and get faster downloads. See the cabling and faceplate help forum.
