There seems to be much growing concern over mis-selling of broadband and I read somewhere that the advertising standards agency are also critically looking at the way in which service providers describe their productsLast edited by NewsreadeR; 09-11-07 at 04:27 PM. Re: Broadband connection speed survey - Advertised 'v' Actual
I've filled it in.
Generally speaking I don't think there is anything wrong with Broadband being sold as "up to" a speed, as long as you are given a reasonably accurate indication of your actual speed when you sign up. When I signed up for Sky they told me 7.1, and 7.1 I get.
I have more of a problem with services being sold as unlimited when there is a usage cap - and even worse "virtually" unlimited - which is another way of saying - LIMITED!
There is, additionally, the problem that so many people do not have optimum wiring in their house, or have very long cable runs which as many people on this forum will attest, can make a massive difference to your speeds.
I wonder how many of your respondents will say they have poor service, when actually they have poor wiring?.

Re: Broadband connection speed survey - Advertised 'v' Actual
every service which say 'unlimited' have a FUP in place, mobile contracts with 'unlimited' texts will have the same....its just to make sure people dont take the mick and absolutely rape their connection leading to a detrimental effect on other users....completely legal and fair tbh, just be thankful Sky haven't actually started to enforce it yet!!!

Re: Broadband connection speed survey - Advertised 'v' Actual
Don't get me wrong - I don't mind usage caps, or fair usage policies (although frankly some are rather woolly), what annoys me is that a company is allowed to advertise something as "Unlimited" when it is patently not.
