Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
I've read with interest the posts that people have put about speed problems, and tryed a few things to improve. With not much luck. I didnt start off well when BT said that they were putting a new line in I thought wow great new cables - oh i was wrong - what they actually meant was that there was a shabbing old line already coming to the house that had never been hooked up inside...
anyway that aside... i switched from a virgin media connection that averaged at 4MB to MAX realistically hoping to get about 6MB which is what they advised. I get about a 42db attentuation and so am about 3.3KM ? or so from the exchange. I am on ADSL2 (which I think is good?)...
but still I'm only getting about 2.9MB which is really poor I think considering...
here are detailed stats - I would really appreciate any thoughts? Thanks

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
thanks, i just noticed that stats say this Max(Kbps): 2972 864 does this means i have been capped?

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
afaik, it would be the figure below the max that would show if you were capped (i.e if your max figure was 8096 but your rate never went higher than 3024, then that would suggest you gave been capped) also most of the time when people are capped there SNR will go higher
looks more like a line problem to me (but i have been wrong before) have you tried your test socket (if you have a NTE5 master socket ) ?Last edited by richone54; 05-11-07 at 10:10 PM.

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
also have a look at first link in my sig and look for mognuts utility, this is where you will be able to change your line from adsl2+ to G.dmt
as this is only a script that runs on the router you will not do any damage and the chage will revert back if re-bootedLinks

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
tryed switching to g.dmt and it moved to just over 3MB, but i switched it back; by rebooting the router. the speed has now jumped to 5.2MB - back on ADSL+2 - bizzare . Am going to try the sockets also now

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
have managed to get up to a 6.8MB max rate by:
changign to g.dmt and by using the test socket in the plate
any further thoughts are welcome? does my error rate look ok? or you think the physcial line might just be rubbish too?

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
thanks for your continued help. I had left PC on for hours, but DAMN the connection lost and it redirected to my old virgin media connection that hasnt disabled yet. but here are some stats over a longer period of time - do you think the trend looks nothign to worry about?
I tryed the socket but didn't make much difference, so I think i'm on with the wire and faceplate issues

Re: Possible the lowest MAX at 2.9MB
Hi Chris,
i am getting a bit confused, i have been asking you to do different things and poss not in the correct order:
these are the router stats from your last post:
SNR (dB): 5.4 11.5
Attn(dB): 46.5 27.7
Pwr(dBm): 1.3 12.4
Max(Kbps): 6840 864
Rate (Kbps): 6688 764
i am sorry about this, but the way i seem to have sent you round the houses makes it difficult to pinpoint any specific problems
