Brand New Max User - Happy, but Problems?
Hi, I just got 16mb Sky Broadband Max on Saturday. The service is great, better than the one I had before (£17.99 a month for 2mb), but I'm not sure if I am getting everything out of it I can.
When trying a speed test, the biggest download I can get is about 3200kb/s, and upload 650kb/s. I know I cannot get all 16000kb/s, but I was wondering if it was possible for someone to check my stats and see if theres any improvements possible. I've run TCPOptimser, and turned off UPnP, but I'm not sure if any more improvements could be made.
Here are my basic stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3796 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 23.9 db
Noise Margin 8.4 db 12.0 db
I'm about 2.16km from the exchange (I know its not accurate), and below is my more detailed router stats:

I also have a connection issue. I'm using the internet on the computer connected to the router - so I'm guessing this is by ethernet (its by the ethernet cable :P)? Just trying to clarify. I am connected to an upstairs phone line - not the main one (it cannot reach), and only have the microfilter plugged into the line up here. Do I need to connect another for my main phone downstairs?
I've also noticed that my phone has started to crackle slightly when in use. Is this related do you think?
Thanks for anyone who gives me help. Its much appreciated.Last edited by CP07; 15-10-07 at 05:49 PM. Reason: Accidental post

Re: Brand New Max User - Happy, but Problems?
Nevermind about the phone issue now. I connected one of the microfilters to the socket and plugged the phone into that - clarity was restored
.
But, that still leaves me with the little disappointing 3200kb/s max download speed...
I see you live in Ilford... Thats pretty cool.Last edited by CP07; 15-10-07 at 08:54 PM. Reason: Forgot Something...

Re: Brand New Max User - Happy, but Problems?
your line distance is ok, however it is very noisy, the only way i can see you getting a better speed is by connectiong the router + filter into the bt master test socket (info on the forums or google it)

Re: Brand New Max User - Happy, but Problems?
with that att. level you'd benefit from being on gdmt and not adsl2+ tbh...
