I think I've been capped but not 100% sure, can someone help?

      Hi there,

Had Sky Broadband 'Connect' for just over a week now and in the first few days I was having a lot of trouble. I have subsequently sorted these problems out it was due to dodgy extensions connected to the master, and after sorting this my speeds went from 0.4mb to 7.2mb.

Anyhoo in those few days I spoke to sky a couple of times and they said it was because it was just activated and should be okay in a few days, but they would make a note on my account and get it checked out.

I think in those few days, they may have put a cap on my speed as now I can only get 4.4mb max and my noise margin has gone up to 13db whereas before it was 8 or 9 and I was getting 7.2mb.

As I say I'm not 100% sure on this but if any of you could take a look at my stats and fill me in a little, this would be brill!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 12.8 db 22.0 db

well, Connect (being a rebranded BT service) has a 10 day bedding in period over which the best speed the line can handle is assessed and set....would appear that although you sync at 8MB you download at around 4MB...

out of interest, try the speed test in my signature and see what you get - anything around 800kb/sec is normal....

EDIT: and it's BT who cap you, getting it removed means getting Sky to instruct BT to do so

      Thanks IAmNotTheEnemy,

I'm getting around 700kbps which isn't too bad I suppose,

I just wondered If they had capped me because of the problems I was originally having during the training period which are now sorted!...

I hope not, what do you think?

700kb/sec is pretty much top whack tbh - id say you've got a good connection there!
