Speed dropped. No longer supports ADSL 2+, lower sync at BT socket.
Hey, I've had Sky BB Max for a few months now. I'm using the DG834GT router provided with 'V1.02.04-GTXplodeV1' custom firmware.
My BT socket is in my hall and a few weeks ago usually synced around 8309(45.5 att), but I wanted the router in my back room. So run an extension cable under the flooring. The result of this meant my attenuation was around 46 or lower, sometimes 43. But still synced at 7264ish and could be pushed to 9392ish with a target att set to 20%!.
Now lately the back room is getting syncs at 6432, and plugged directly into the BT socket is 4512!
How come the BT sockets sync is so low - nothing else is plugged into it!
+ How come the sync has dropped at the back room?
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!
Mark

Just to add to that. It no longer allows me to sync with ADSL 2+, it used to fine.
I'm going do a test, and hook directly up to the junction coming into the house!

Re: Speed dropped. No longer supports ADSL 2+, lower sync at BT socket.
Your router is reporting G.DMT as the ADSL mode in operation. If you haven't switched mode then Sky have for some reason. If Sky switch you to G.DMT, this then locks you to that mode.
G.DMT is a good mode for problem (noisy) lines. You're syncing at between 6432 and 4512kbps which is very low for a 42db G.DMT connection. You have a noisy line and this is probably the reason Sky have switched you.

Re: Speed dropped. No longer supports ADSL 2+, lower sync at BT socket.
I have a custom firmware - when the router is on 'multimode' it selects G.DMT. When I choose to sync with ADSL 2+ It cannot connect.
This is what I'm talking about - manually selecting ADSL2+.
6432 is low for 42?
Right now it's at 6336 at 42.0 db in the 'back room.'
I was under the impression 6000 is pretty good for 42db, If I'm getting that direct to the junction - is there anything I can do to increase the speed? - These results are the same on about 4 different filters.

ever thought the FW might be at fault? try the normal Sky/updated Netgear ones and try ur test socket (if u have one) and see what happens

Re: Speed dropped. No longer supports ADSL 2+, lower sync at BT socket.
Right, So I'm still wanting to increase my speed. I haven't been too bothered lately.
I reinstalled the standard firmware, which made no difference.
I've read a few other posts saying that Sky have disabled ADSL 2+ for other customers and it requires ringing Tier 3 to get them to enable it again, is this correct?
If my line previously supported ADSL 2+ and got speeds up to 9mb, and now it's not anymore, why shouldn't I be able to continue using ADSL 2?

Re: Speed dropped. No longer supports ADSL 2+, lower sync at BT socket.
T3/ CST will only put you back onto ADSL2+ if your line is ok to run it again, post detailed stats of your connection
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/techn...matically.html
and we can see if it will be ok to go back on to ADSL2+ or not.
