and as for virgin speeds, they even say upto on there cable, but looking at some of the forums for them it seems you pay for 20meg but if you download after more than a certain amount you then get capped (i have seen figures around 4meg)

Appreciate that richone54 but was with Virgin for over 3 years, pretty much constantly downloading and uploading and was never capped. I just find the Sky broadband and service atrocious and just wanted to pass my experiencies on so others can make their own minds up.

you will be now due to the traffic shaping Virgin use on heavy users...

however, i agree with the whole UP TO thing - but Sales will say anything for a sell it would seem...

Cable will always be better than DSL at present - anyone you went with on ADSL would prob give you similar speeds

Re: Help Sky Broadband Max 16Mb slow connection

Sky were very honest when i signed up and quoted a download speed of lower than i am getting now(was quoted 5M but get 7.5M). I laugh when i see all these complaints about the "upto" advertising - upto means just that and not gauranteed speed. Sky actually advised me not to get the max if all i wanted was the download speed - cant get fairer than that

Previously i was with zen who pride themselves on their service. With them i was lucky to get 5M.

you laugh about the UPTO? Then your pretty much on your own when there are millions of people complaining about it. I hope the whole industry get their arses kicked and then have to tell the consumer what speeds they can and cant get. Sounds to me like half the people on here have been brainwashed by SKY. Cmon now, wake up and smell the coffee.

      ^^^LOL,

in truth, when i phoned to get sky BB i was also told a realistic speed (around 5 but i now sync around 7)
seeing some of the more recent posts i do wonder if sky may need to have a word with the sales dept,

Re: Help Sky Broadband Max 16Mb slow connection

thing is, a speed check is done at point of sale - it won't continue without it - so they should be telling everyone these days (although its quite generic, e.g. 8-16Mbps )
