      Slow speeds.

Im on sky broadband max, and im around 1.5km away from the nearest exchange as the crow flies.
Heres some statistics for my router, i get around 250kb download speed... 60 ping on cs 1.6 and 50 ping on cs source.
normally around 2.5mb-3mb i deffinatly reckon i should be getting more then this, as when i first set up skybroadband i had atleast 4mb+

Im on wireless, my brother is on ethernet connection, but he gets the same download speeds etc as me.

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 2784 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 768 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) SKY31641
      Region Europe
      Channel 7
      Wireless AP Enabled
      Broadcast Name Enabled

      Speed test from speedtest.net:

Also UpNP is on, i dont have a clue what this is though but ye its ticked on.

If i was on ADSL+2 connection it said my speeds should be around 16-24mb, although on max i can only get upto 16mb which is lots so that would be sick.
How would i check if im ADSL+2? or just regular ADSL because i reckon i could probably just be on ADSL which would only allow me to get like 3mb.

      Re: Slow speeds.

From experience I would suggest posting a proper set of stats for the nice helpful people to look at, if you look through some of the other posts you should get some kind of idea of what they will be looking for to help you out.

I'm afraid not. For a start Sky only offer 16meg as a maximum and then that is only on the shortest, highest quality lines. 24meg is the theoretical upper limit for ADSL2+ and is just about impossible to achieve.

Secondly, and more importantly your attenuation at 57db isn't that far off from the limit for any ADSL connection yet alone a super fast one. If your line is excellent quality you could hope for ~3000kbps. You're currently getting 2784kbps so you're just about at the limit your line can support - stable.

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear but your connection is pretty good. Please read the first sticky in my signature which may help you understand what speeds you're getting and why they will/have varied from reboot to reboot (it's down to the noise at the time).

      Re: Slow speeds.

Saturday do you mean the cable from my house to the exchange?
or do you mean my line that goes from my router to the faceplate?

if you mean the to the faceplate, couldnt i just buy a cable capable of maintaining faster speeds?

      from house to exchange....

as said, the further u get form the exchange - the slower ADSL becomes. You're a fair way away so what you're getting now is pretty much all you're gonna get, sorry!
