      @bristol boy

      Poor sync for your attenuation. Hard to be sure without seeing your detailed stats but your normal noise margin suggests you've not been capped, so it looks as though you have some line problems. Sort them out and you should easily sync at the maximum that Sky offers of ~16meg.

      Good speedtest for your sync.

      Two different parts to your question:

      If you're not wireless then there are a number of other things to consider - look back a few posts to a list I wrote for another poster. After eliminating a wireless problem, next up would be to get your TCP/IP settings right.

      With regard to your falling noise margin, that's completely normal. read the first sticky in my signature for an explanation and a fix. Whether you have line problems or not (your sync doesn't suggest you have) can be determined by simple tests. Line problems arise either in your home phone wiring (most common) or the BT line or sometimes both. If you determine you have a BT line fault then yes, call BT. See the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on diagnosing and fixing line problems.

      Re: **run a speedtest and post your results here**

      Oh eck, I'm having a bit of a mare!

      Had sky activated on Tuesday (8mb 'Connect' package), always had cable broadband before so got no comparison for my new bt line, Only got round to plugging in my router yesterday and here's my ridiculously slow results...

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 6944 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 35.0 db 19.0 db
      Noise Margin 9.1 db 21.0 db

      I'm on a wireless connection at the mo, but I get the exact same results connected via my ethernet cable...

      Checked with samknows before I ordered skybb and it reckons I should get 5mb at least... not 0.3mb!!...

      I ran the TCIP optmiser but to no avail...

      I feel like crying
