Re: **run a speedtest and post your results here**

Noise margin will change through the day in direct relation to the prevailing noise levels on the line, which in turn varies due to a wide range of environmental factors. The cycle will repeat itself day after day with a general pattern of low noise (higher margin) through the day with noise steadily rising until the evening when it is usually at its peak. These daily noise swings are typically in the range of 2-4db with higher quality lines showing a smaller swing than poor lines.

Unlike LLU products, Connect uses an exchanged based rate adaption process which responds to changes in line conditions to change the sync speed without the need for a resync event. Your sync speed is already at the maximum for Connect so sync can't go up, just the noise margin if line noise drops.

Should you at some time move to LLU, your attenuation would normally support 20+meg, depending on your line quality. It is pretty much impossible to predict the exact speed you'd get from your current stats due to the different technologies used but I suspect you do have some line noise which may reduce this figure.

Hi, I've noticed the noise margin is staying at approx 9.4 to 9.6 at the moment. Speed, with the exception of the general poor times, is running at 6.5 to a one-off max of 7.5Mbps. I'm more than happy with those numbers, which is more than I can say for the general lack of availability of those numbers!!! Net access that is only really available for half of the day when I'm sleeping for half of the other half ( if that makes any sense!!!) is about as much use to me as a chocolate teapot!!

Thanks for your help in interpreting my stats and line spec.

      Regards.

      John.

To be honest I think you should be posting in the Broadband Help section. You obviously need some.

Hi, had sky max a week or so, I was only connecting at 5mb or so, called Sky, spent an hour on the phone firstly to someone saying my line was only capable of 2.5mb so I should be happy, then after saying I knew it wasn't (thanks to the test etc on here) I was put through to another, more helpful person, who after playing around with the line and getting me to change my microfilter I connected at 13.5mb! Come back home from work today and I'm back to before!

If you have only been connected for a week or so, DLM would be running on your line. It looks like one Sky agent has 'paused or ceased' it or whatever they do, then another has come along and switched it back on again. It could be a Manager has rapped the first ones knuckles for taking it off within the training period and put it on again. The competence of some Sky agents will never cease to amaze me.

I would give it a couple of days to get right past the training period, then call them again to have it manually adjusted. It is obvious your line can support much more.

Well just been on the phone again to a Tier3 bloke who said for some reason the line had been capped at 5mb, he removed that and flagged the system to not put it back on again.

That's much more like it, I hope it remains good and stable.
