Thanks for confirming that I'm being capped at 8096kbps on MAX, I'll call SKY and let you know if anything changes.

Do I simply ask to be uncapped, give them my stats etc? I'm preparing myself to get the usual response as many others have (i.e there is no cap, that is as much as your line can handle etc) but should my router stats be evidence enough to prove there's a cap in place which shouldn't be there as I'm on max?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 17.5 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 13.0 db

      Thanks again.

Tell the TI agent that you're not happy with your speeds. You'll then have to go through troubleshooting ("yes I'm plugged into the Master, yes I have a filter fitted" etc). With luck you'll find it fairly easy to get put through to CST who can uncap you. Phoning late evening (e.g. after 10pm) seems the best time for short calls.

I got through to sky and told them I was unhappy with my speed etc and was eventually put through to an Indian guy who told me, in pretty poor English, that apparently my line can only handle 4mb and that altering my speed wasn't possible? He said I'm already getting double the speed that I should be getting and if he did anything to the line then I wouldn't be able to get back to the speed I have now...if that makes sense?

I have sky MAX, my exchange is only about 1.5km away and my speedtest / router stats are below.

      Download: 6957
      Upload: 436
      Ping: 85
      Distance: <50mi
      Server: London

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 17.5 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 13.0 db

Does it make sense what he said? He ended the call rather rudely, so should I just call back and hope for someone else?

      Thanks.

      No - it's complete rubbish.

As I said earlier, phone late in the evening and you'll almost certainly, quickly get through to a UK based CST agent.

      Hi Saturday,

I called sky last night, after 10pm, and spoke to an adviser who then gave me a ticket number for CST. I was then put on hold whilst they transferred me, but after being on hold for 56 minutes I was cut off, without even getting through to CST to discuss my connection speeds!
56 minutes on hold, and for nothing.

I called back today to give them the ticket number in the hope I'd be passed through to CST, but they told me the ticket had been closed!?

Now for the worst part, I was then told that my connection speed was now 6880kbps rather than my usual connection of 8096kbps! Checking my router confirmed this to be true.

I told the guy I couldn't believe my speed had actually been lowered without even discussing it with me, so the adviser said he would have CST put it back on 8096kbps.
I did ask if I could speak to CST myself, but the answer was no and that basically 8096kbps is the best I can expect to get according to CST.

Once again, I have sky BB MAX and my exchange is less than 2km away (although they told me it was 3km away, which is totally untrue). They also rather bluntly said that my BT can only handle 4mb and that I should be happy with 8096kbps as it's more than I should be getting.

I've just checked my router stats again and they appear to be back to how they were, so it seems I've gotten absolutely nowhere in trying to obtain a higher connection speed.

I'm lost for what to do now

Oh dear - you've been very unlucky in who you've got through to. And I've never heard of such a long wait in the late evening. Just shows how much work DLM has caused.

Your stats clearly show that you can (and are) getting more than 4meg. Your stats also show that your line length (attenuation is essentially a measure of line length) is ~2.1km. That attenuation and your noise margin show that your line is capable of syncing at significantly more than your current 8meg. Whether it would be error free (or rather low error) at a higher speed is difficult to say. Your detailed router stats may give a clue but to be honest, unless your line is really bad, that high noise margin will be masking what's actually going on. If it were that bad then I doubt you'd be syncing as high as you are.

All I can suggest is that you try again. If you can't stand the thought of another call then try the email/Kana system and ask to be put on ADSL2+, uncapped i.e. let the router train at the best sync it can. Possibly if one of the CST team who post here see this they might be able to suggest an alternative approach.

Nor will anyone else have unless you also post your router stats and whether you're wired or wireless.
