Hi
Just moved to Sky MAX from BT - here are my detailed stats I'm curious as to why the router syncs at 8mb (I'm not techie so please don't shoot me down in flames if my understanding is wrong).

Re: Hi - Am I being capped
Hi Jacko,
No your not being capped. The reason your router is syncing at 8mb is because you are on the mode: G.DMT and this only supports line speeds of UPTO 8mb.
Your line attenuation is 35 and around 40 is the cut-off limit for ADSL2 which is what CAN give you UPTO 16mb, but with your attenuation you would see a maximum of 12mb, 10mb stable.
Distance is what affects the line attenuation, how far are you from your exchange? (Find out HERE )
There are a few errors on the line but for almost two days uptime they look acceptable.
How are you connecting the router to the telephone line and to the computer? (Extensions, wireless etc?)
Im a sort of newbie at this so best to wait for Saturday to pop along to either confirm what I have said or beat me down for it

Re: Hi - Am I being capped
hi,
yes dependent on how long you have switched over to sky Max BB, wait for three days after the activation, you should get an automated telephone from sky noting you that your sky bb is now active, etc, then the day after, send sky an email from here use this link to email them:
https://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/kana
ask them to uncap your line, also ask them to change you router over for G.DMT mode to ADSL2 mode, then wait to see what speed they uncap you at.
once you see a faster sync speed from your router, thats the speed they can only uncap you at, dependent on quality of line, your wiring, and how far away you are from your telephone exchange etc.
Hope this helps.Last edited by jdsimp1234; 25-08-07 at 02:22 PM.

Re: Hi - Am I being capped
Well if I'm allowed to beat you
Yes, you're broadly right but being a little pedantic, Sky's LLU G.DMT actually supports up to 12 meg in theory (10.5 in reality) but is usually capped by Sky at 8096kbps.
An attenuation of 35db on G.DMT will translate to ~38db on ADSL2+ which is the right side of the borderline and with those excellent line stats I'd be surprised if ADSL2+ wasn't a better mode for you.
Again being pedantic, note the + after ADSL2. ADSL2+ is very different from ADSL2 (which is actually close to Sky's LLU G.DMT) and Sky don't offer it - though in very unusual situations the router will sometimes sync to it.

Re: Hi - Am I being capped
i second, your reply saturday, you are correct. so its adsl2+ not adsl2, ok.
