    This is a discussion on From the beginning within the Speed tests and how to get better results forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; What does a line cap actually mean? any idea what my problem is? thanks BTW...

      there wouldn't appear to be an issue at the mo as there are no (read - very few) line errors - it might just be ur connection running slow. There are TCP optimizers but ive never had to use one so wouldnt know where to go about them....altho, if ur running wireless then there will always be some drop in speed as opposed to wired

      a line cap would lower the maximum speed the line will sync at. At present ur line is set to 2MB, and ur syncing at 1.6/1.7MB....by capping to 1.5MB you'd hopefully sync at 1.5MB and this should stop any errors forming on the line which could be hindering it. Having said that, without having properly caned your connection i can't see anything wrong!!
