Sky cap (limit) the sync speed (not the download speed) to manage poor line conditions. As I said, some parts of your stats suggest this may have been done, some parts don't. It's not conclusive and anyway has nothing to do with the very slow download speeds you refer to.

Poor download speeds in relation to your sync speeds can be down to a number of reasons such as:

• a poor wireless connection (apparently not in this case)
• a slow/overloaded test server (try this one)
• incorrect TCP/IP settings (see the second sticky in my signature)
• gross line errors (your stats don't cover long enough to show the true error level)
• malware utilising bandwidth
• another user using bandwidth on the LAN (or even a wireless hijack)
• miscellaneous hardware problems such as network card, cabling etc

I have tried the optimizing the connection as mentioned in your second stickie, I have tried the speed test from the place you said and I am still getting approx 250kb/s. I'll leave it a few days and post results again.

In that case Pikey, you're not capped, The strange stats are just caused by Connect's exchange based rate adaption.

How long have you been connected? If less than 10 days, sit back and relax for a while. Connect has a 10 day training period when sync rates and download speeds will fluctuate considerably.

Sorry about that, I signed up for connect but I can get all packaged in my area now I believe. I thought SKy changed you over automatically when it was available. I have been on connect for about 3 months now I think. I am sure I was getting a quicker speed than this to begin with. I'll Change my profile though.

Connect, unlike Sky's LLU products uses an exchange based rate adaption process. For whatever reason, this system has determined that the best possible connection for your line condition is a relatively slow sync (for your attenuation) of 3968kbps and a high noise margin of 21.3db.

That looks to me like you have a noisy line and that is certainly indicated by your line errors in your stats. If you do what you can to remove all causes of line noise (see the cabling and faceplate help forum) then you should see your connection speed (sync) improve.

Ok, thanks. I am also going to phone sky and find out why they havent put me onto the "Mid" package. I dont know if this will help, but its available in my area now so I would rather be on that.

Hey Pikey.
Where in Wolves are you? Are you on the Fordhouses exchange?
IIRC it was upgraded in March and sky have just moved me from connect to Mid. I'm in Pendeford which is right by the exchange and was getting around 6Mb with connect, this has dropped to around 1 since being moved to Mid.

Not a happy bunny.
