Another to ponder
I'm a new sky user and have The highest package on broadband, when i phone to order they did a check on my bt line and told me the max i would get where i am is 5.5mb, i ordered the top service just because it was free subscription and only £10 on top of the tv (most of this you guys already know sorry)
The router came through, i recieved my letter and subsiquently i have the desktop and two laptops running on wireless.
What i dont understand is why i'm only getting a low speed.
Up is 596
Down is 649
Ping was 62
I downloaded the TCO optimiser but it made no difference, so anyway, heres a few setting from my router.
ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 8096 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 768 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
I have had a search but i'm one of those who gets very much blinded by too much of the same, any help would be much appreciated.
Just for info, my bt line was replaced back three weeks ago, everything was brand new from the pole in the street to the box on the wall, there is just one connection inside the house with the phone line and router plugged in and thats all.

Re: Another to ponder
How did you obtain these figures ?
Couldyou post your router stats using this utility.
Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
I'm sure someone will take a look and offer an opinion.

Re: Another to ponder
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
I've also used internet frog too and come up with the same speed frame.
I have a laptop downstairs next to the router plugged in ethernet and the speed is much of a sameness.
Just in the process of downloading that utility so will post up a detailed report as soon as.
Thanks for the quick reply and right track.

Re: Another to ponder
Your stats look ok, try this dl and see what results you get, you dont have to download it all just leave it for a few min to stabalise.

Have a read of this thread regarding speedtest sites and their reliability

Re: Another to ponder
I have no idea what i'm to do with that first link, got me at a loss.
I've just been down to the laptop connected by ethernet and i'm supprised the stats have changed.
My problem seems to be wireless then
This is the wireless connection.
I appreciate whats being said about trusting speed sites but thats a hell of a difference.
Ok, i've now reset the router downstairs and tested the wireless once more and these are the results upstairs.
Seems an improvement.Last edited by mat.knight; 06-07-07 at 08:34 PM.

Re: Another to ponder
Ok gotcha.
133kb a sec as it finished.
I thought the reboot on the rooter sorted my problem but my speeds are as bad as ever, this is a long way from my 4mb connection with ntl.

Re: Another to ponder
Re the wireless speed, its common if you have a week signal for poor results. I found moving the wireless adaptor about till i got a good 54mps reading then bluetaking it to that spot the best way to get a better result.
