HELP Please new to SKY Broadband Max so slow I have tested speed.

Hi, I am new to this so apologise in advance if doing anything wrong.

Been with Sky for 3 weeks on Broadband Mid. Have 2 pcs running XP Service packs 2 wirelessly. Been trying to work from home and connection is so slow (previously NTL broadband which I thought was bad but excellent compared to this) I have given up - taken 1 hour to get this far.

I saw a thread about speed to tested mine and got this.

      Can anyone help me ??

You need to post your full router stats so that we may be able to get a clue what's wrong. For instructions on how to do this see the Technical Help/Router Stats area of the Forum

Can you also test your speed with a wired connection to rule out a wireless problem?

Hi - On Mid not MAX - sorry.

These are router stats on wireless connection - I am 2.05 kilometres from my exchange (as the crow flies). Will need to move pc later to connect with wires as supplied cables not long enough.

Your line condition is appalling I'm afraid. About as bad a level of errors as has ever been posted on the forum

That will undoubtedly be a cause of slow throughput but probably not to the level you report. That I suspect is down to your wireless connection - hence why I asked for you to run a test with a wired connection.

Hi - many thanks - going to get longer ethernet cable today so I can run with a wired connection and then see what the results are. Will post the results later on today.

This slow connection has only occurred over the last week - all started off ok and that was with the wireless.

Re: HELP Please new to SKY Broadband Max so slow I have tested speed.

I'd be very surprised if you didn't see a big improvement in download speed with a wired connection.

However, that still leaves the very high level of line errors which are also likely to be contributing to low throughput and "laggy" surfing. Running ethernet rather than wireless will make no difference to those. They are caused by line noise which usually originates within the home phone wiring.

For info and advice on diagnosing and fixing line problems please see the cabling and faceplate help forum.
