      this is faster than NTL

Been up and running for just over two months with sky broadband, i am really pleased with the performance, i read posts here on how to optimise my connection after it was a bit erratic at the start, it was disconnecting quite a bit,but now its brilliant, my question is, when i was with the old NTL i was on the four mbs but never got anywhere near that, the very best i recorded when downloading was 290.5kbs,i just did a test with the telewest download on this site and it reached 850kbs,could someone please explain what this figure actually is,thanks.

      Hi

If you post your router stats, we can give you a better explanation.

      Hi

According to your router stats, you are on 8mb, hence twice the speed of your old connection.

Downloading at 850kbs is a great speed, you would normally lose 10% of your 8mb in overheads.

Re: this is faster than NTL

      Hi

Your stats show a speed of 6272 or in simple terms just over 6mb.

As you are closer to the exchange than the OP.

With been nearer you *should* theoretically see higher speeds than what you have now.

Try the test socket behind the master socket and then repost your stats if possible. (This would rule out any internal wiring problems)

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view.php?pg=master

However, bear in mind the line may go around the town to get to you.

Re: this is faster than NTL

      Hi

      Before:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6272 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 10.7 db 14.0 db

      After:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 9.1 db 14.0 db

Using the test socket, your speed has gone up to 8mb, nearly 2mb faster!

Can you use the master socket all the time instead?

If not you could read this thread:
