Anyway I followed the ext. optimisation wizard and my noise figure jumped to 15dB!!!!! Wowahweewha

However, I am only synching at 4mb

I phoned Sky tier 3 and spoke to a guy there who told me that i was only on ADSL and not the ADSL2 that i was paying for. Boooooo

He has changed my exchange profile from 4mb ADSL to 12mb ADSL2 and my noise has dropped but is still ok at 9dB

My snych is still only 5mb tho?

      2 things worry me.

1 Why are Sky setting peoples default exchange profiles to ADSL normal at low speeds when they are paying for ADSL2? (They seem to be hiding behind the tech aspect of this hoping that poeple wont notice/understand)

2 Why with my profile sorted and my noise figure excellent am i only getting 5mb synch?

Any help with these would be much appreciated.

      B
If you post your detailed stats now that you have improved your SNR someone will be able to offer more help.

Maybe youv'e been capped by Sky, if you post your detailed stats someone here will be able to advise you furthur. Yes I'd expect to be linking at around 8mbps on a 43db line.

      Re: New Max customer query

Can someone tell me how to get my stats pls
I tried DL'ing the Bounce app but when run from my lappy it didnt do anything when i asked for it to display stats it just sat there.

I will DL again and run it from my PC just in case but in the meantime help anyone

Cheers for the help so far....much appreciated.

I may be capped. I spoke to tier 3 3 days ago and had to fight and beg and beg to get put on to ADLS max which is what i ampaying for.
The guy said that my line coulndt take it and that i would get errors building up on the line. I told him my SNR was nearly 18dB at the time and he reluctantly put my exhange profile up from 4mb to 12mb yet still no speed test / synch change.

      Will post stats here ASAP

      Re: New Max customer query

Hi - as previously stated use this utility :-
Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
you dont need to download it just go to the link above and click on "get detailed modem statistics".
You will then see a page with "Usage: ping [OPTION]... host " which means it has worked. Press back in your browser until you get back to the utility frontpage and then click download netgear.cfg file. Save this and view in word or notepad - paste results here and someone will help
      cheers

      Re: New Max customer query

Hi - i'm not an expert on line stats but you do seem to have a lot of errors, whether this is an acceptable level or not I cant comment on, but as penryhn stated earlier this could and usually is down to internal wiring - check the cabling / faceplate section of the forum for further advice on rectifying this.

      Re: New Max customer query

      Dave thanks for the infor.

Can you pls tell me where it details my errors?

I have tried my connection via every socket in the flat including the master and it makes no difference. I gather from this that it isnt the internal wiring.

Also why so many errors when my SNR is so good?
I know today it is around 9dB but usually its closer towards 17dB?

      Cheers again

With respect to getting the same figures in all sockets you will if it is an internal wiring fault, you really need to plug the router directly into the test socket behind the master as this will effectively disconnect all your internal wiring. If you havent got the new style master socket then you need to disconnect all extension from the first socket that your bt line comes into and plug the router into this. Also prior to getting your stats you need to work the router hard for an hour or two, try downloading some big files.
      cheers

      Re: New Max customer query

      Ok and many thanks.
My master socket is old school and so has no test socket.
I have also disconnected all but pins 2 and 5 from each of the ext. sockets as per a tutorial someone pointed me to.

I really do not know what else to do amybe this is all i can have for some reason.

      B
