First 10 days - My Connection Stats Advice

      Hi,

Be gentle with me on this one guys, cos I am learning this aspect of broadband connection's etc at a slow rate..

I have just started with Sky, and at the moment using my Voyager 210 (my Sky Netgear is faulty and I am waiting for replacement)

I am just curious what my line status etc is actaully like. Personally I find my speed a great improvement on my last ISP (although its a different package)..

This is the information I have taken from my Voyager:

Line Mode G.DMT Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave Line Up Time 00:05:56:51
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 1

      Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8096 Kbps 768 Kbps
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 14.0 dB
Line Attenuation 43.0 dB 24.5 dB
Output Power 19.8 dBm 10.8 dBm
K (number of bytes in DMT frame) 254 25
R (number of check bytes in RS code word) 12 16
S (RS code word size in DMT frame) 1 8
      D (interleaver depth) 64 8
      Super Frames 1259449 1259447
      Super Frame Errors 171 32
      RS Words 171285174 10705299
      RS Correctable Errors 34870 208
      RS Uncorrectable Errors 2520 0
      HEC Errors 134 0
      OCD Errors 0 0
      LCD Errors 0 0
      ES Errors 0 0

I am about 1.5 km away from my exchange. (point to point, bird flies)

Because I am within my 10 days "settling down" period, but I am curious as to how my line stats / broadband status looks and if I may see either an increase (or decrease) in my present speeds..

I did see somewhere on the forum about G.DMT being ADSL 1 or something..so I assume I am on ADSL 1?? maybe I got that wrong..not sure. (and can't find post now.. )

Any feedback on my stats appreciated, although I realsie these will only be estimations.

      Cheers!
      Ged

      Hi GedNE

From the stats you have posted i sky have initailly capped you at 8mg, this is common if they see some errors at the start etc. You can tell by the G.DMT (most times)

The only thing that may hold you back re the speed is you attenuation, it may be worthwhile trying to get uncapped via Tier 3 and see what speed your exchange will give you and if its pants go back to capped 8Mg

I too came from MAAF and noticed a HUGE difference in speed and more importantly the cost and download usage.

Thanks Paul, yep I remember you from the MAAF forum .. thanks for the advice.

Actually I am taking advice from my own siggy (lol) and checking out what all this attenuation, noise etc.. is all about, all a good learning curve!! Just wading through all these explanation posts, well helpful!!..

Well if I am capped on the 8meg service, thats fair enough.. just wasn't sure whether or not my line good enough to sustain a higher speed.

Re: First 10 days - My Connection Stats Advice

I can't comment on the errors, I'll leave that to someone better qualified, however, I think you should realise that with an attenuation of 43db you could only expect to get around 8500-9000kbps on ADSL2+ anway.

If it turns out you do have some error problems, which I suspect you may have, you may be better off staying with G.dmt until you can sort them out. I personally, would rather stay on a stable, but slightly slower, connection, rather a faster unstable one.

Yeah.. me too, and if thats the case, I'll stay where I am ... stable connection or speed, my choice = stable connection.
