Everything slows down between 18:00 and 23:00
Hi Guys, hope someone can help. My broadband was activated 3 days ago and during the day my connection is great. I get over 800KB/s download and over 80KB/s upload. Sweet. However come 6pm every evening so far it drops down to crawling pace. Webpages timing out and downloads speeds less than a 56k modem. Any one any ideas whats going on? Never had this problem on my old ISP (zen internet)
For Info Im not using the sky router Im using my own DG834GT with an older version of the firmware which is more stable and has been fine for 2 years on my old ISP, all I changed was my login and password.
Ive read all the various, speed your connection up using TCPOptimiser etc.. messages but this cant be the problem as its fine during the day.

Re: Everything slows down between 18:00 and 23:00
With your attenuation you should be able to get close to the maximum 16mb speed. Although, it looks like sky may have put you on to G.dmt rather than the ADSL2+ that most people are on with Max. This is probably because G.dmt will handle the errors your line is creating, better than ADSL+2 (Saturday is the one to comment on this better than anyone). You say it's fine during the day, but I think the line is just coping better at quieter times and you only notice real problems because of increased noise in the evenings.
I think you will need to investigate your house wiring a little further. You may want to take a look at the this area of the forum for further information on how to improve your connection.

The stickies at the top are the place to start.
Also it would be helpful to know how your router is connected, are you using wireless, are you using an extension. See what results you get when plug the router into the TEST socket behind the faceplate of the MASTER socket (If you have an NTE-5 socket). If you can plug into the test socket for an hour or so and then post a comparison set of stats, I'm sure someone will be able to help further.Asus P6T Deluxe - i7 920 @3.6GHz - 750GB Samsung F1 - 6GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz - XFX GTX260 'Black Edition' - Tagan 1100W PSU - TT 'Big Water' 760i - Antec 1200 - Windows 7 64-bit - Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit

Re: Everything slows down between 18:00 and 23:00
Thanks, Im connecting 3 laptops via wireless and 2 PC's via CAT5. The router is on an extension cable to the back of the house. I know I can get better noise stats by plugging into the main socket but I cant see how this can be a problem, as it was all fine with my old ISP 3 days ago, switch to Sky and the problems start. My noise and Att figures are the same now as they were with the old ISP. They are the same this morning at 10:30 and its running fine, as they were when it was running like a 56k modem last night.
My speeds are fine during the day. At the moment Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed give me

Re: Everything slows down between 18:00 and 23:00
Firstly, was your old ISP trying to supply you with a 16000kbps connection on ADSL2+. Because, I suspect that if they had of done, you would have encountered similar problems. That is likely why sky have put you on G.dmt which I gather would give a maximum of around 11000kbps. As you can see you are not getting this either. That is also why your noise figures are the same as your previous ISP. G.dmt will help to modulate your connection to keep the errors down, effectively capping your speeds.
Secondly, you said you know that you could improve your noise margin. I don't doubt this but, would it improve your error levels as well? That was the point of the Test socket connection.
I think you need to go to the root of the problem which is more than likely your house wiring causing errors on your line. Once these are sorted then you could ask sky to put you back on ADSL2+ and get your full connection speed.Asus P6T Deluxe - i7 920 @3.6GHz - 750GB Samsung F1 - 6GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz - XFX GTX260 'Black Edition' - Tagan 1100W PSU - TT 'Big Water' 760i - Antec 1200 - Windows 7 64-bit - Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit
