      Re: Slow download speed

      As posted on another question:-

Try posting your router stats, I can't find the link at present. use the test socket under the Master socket bottom half faceplate, go to this link:-

Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4

Go to get password, log in admin and sky and then navigate back then go to download netgear config file open copy and paste on the forum.

And then ask for help, people need more details and information before they can help, good luck.

      Re: Slow download speed

When you save the file or open it just use notepad to open it which is found in start/programs/accessories to view the file. If you mget trouble copy the file to your desktop, open notepad and then goto file/open in notepad and click on the file on your desktop in the browse window and click on open and you will then be able to view the file.

      Re: Slow download speed

Im not an expert but the "Status: G.994 Training" looks like your on a training period as it only shows g.994 with no attenuation figures at all which if true then you are not on the MAX adsl service but maybe connect or mid or something. Just try doing a reboot on the router and do the same again with the netgear tool and see if you get any different readings than the above, if not then i dunno. Strange looking stats if you ask me. A more knowledgeable person may know what they mean though.

As a comparison, this is my top bit of my stats and im on max.

/usr/sbin/adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 768 Kbps, Downstream rate = 9824 Kbps
      Link Power State: L0
      Mode: G.DMT
      Channel: Interleave
      Trellis: ON
      Line Status: No Defect
      Training Status: Showtime
      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 9.0 13.0
      Attn(dB): 27.0 17.5
      Pwr(dBm): 19.8 7.5
      Max(Kbps): 10336 1184
      Rate (Kbps): 9824 768

      Re: Slow download speed

If you look at your maximum speed it only shows 2688 and it looks like your snr of 7 could be the problem. You should be able to get more out of a 44 attenuation but this has to do with the snr. Try the skyuser Links on the right hand side of the site to get a better speed, i.e Test your master socket. You may have a weak signal due to an internal wiring problem or an extension socket from your phone line. If you have tried the master socket and get no real improvement then you could have a hard wired extension from your master socket or even a ring wire can cause a problem. There are guides on checking these in the cable and wiring section in the forum

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/cabling-faceplate-help/

It suggests removing the faceplate of your master socket and making sure only wires 2 and 5 are connected so if there is more then remove them. This all depends on whether you have more than 1 bt socket in your house though as if you have 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs then more than likely you have a hard wired extension so its upto you if you want to keep it connected or not.
Hope you get a better speed as i am sure you SHOULD be able to.

      Ian
