      I have tried enabling my Yahoo mail account and putting
      my email adddress
      plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
      username & password in but no joy yet.

      ISTR that its something to do with the port too.

      Re: What is an SMTP email account?

      mattylad, I think that you don't fully understand how email works. The SMTP server is what your client (either your email client or the client built into the router's firmware) uses to send mail. The POP or IMAP servers are what hold onto your recieved mail untill you are ready to download it. The SkyUser SMTP server is provided as a service for members who need to send mail without their sky/gmail address being appended to their mails or who are using a client which doesn't have SSL capability. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is required for the sky/gmail servers.

      This may help explain it

      Edit, I posted this before I saw your question to Scubbie. I was under the impression that you could only use the yahoo SMTP servers if you had a paid account.

      I knew that you might ask, but I was unable to check them earlier.

      Send to this email address: youryahooid@yahoo.co.uk
      Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

      Tick box for 'My Mail Server requires authentication
      User Name: youryahooid (do not include the '.co.uk')
      Password: {your yahoo! password}

      This is using the standard Netgear Firmware for the DGN2000. If your Yahoo! email address ends in '.com', then replace the '.co.uk' at the end of the email address & smtp server with '.com'.

      These settings worked on my previous ISP & Sky when the DGN2000 was used. Unfortunately the WiFi no longer works well on it so I've had to stop using this router.

      Thankyou Scubbie, that now works...

      I have been struggling with this for ages as have others.

      I'm not so sure I need the SMTP account from here now.
