      Close to tether's end

Ok, I've been trying to get the smtp account to work for days. On my mac and on my wife's pc. To no avail.

I set up the pop for incoming mail. No problem.

Can't get outgoing mail to work in either case. Using my forum username and the password I supplied when requesting smtp and the server mail.skyusermail.com

I've trawled the forum looking for tweaks and tricks but everything I have tried just changes the error message from one to another.

Please can you suggest where I might be going wrong. n my Mac I'm using Mail 4.5. The same problem exists on the PC. I think if I can solve the Mac problem I can solve the other one.

Is it possible there is a technical glitch at the server end on my login details?

I've had a range of error messages from the server not supporting the authentication to the username and password being wrong, when they're right.

I hope it's a schoolboy error. Please help!

      Cheers

      Andy

      Hi

If we have replied by PM to tell you it is setup then it has to be your end.

Have a look at this image and see if it helps?

      Re: Close to tether's end

You should have had a PM with this text on.

      Hi
You have now been setup to use the SMTP server settings as follows...

      Username: as supplied (Forum Username)
      Password: as supplied
      SMTP Server: mail.skyusermail.com
      Port: 25

Please note we do not support SSL.

If your username contains a space then the space will have been removed for the SMTP server IE: jo blogs becomes joblogs,

      the password is case sensitive,
for any problems can you please use the contact us form and we will try to sort it out ASAP for you.

      Re: Close to tether's end

Thanks for those replies. I have seen them in other posts.

I appreciate that but not only have I received the pm you refer to, I have tried lots of different ways to make it work.

If you are saying that the server end has been set up with saxman1000 as the username and the password I supplied for SMTP when applying, and there are no tech problems at that end I'll probably persist for a while longer and then call it quits.

I realise in these circumstances it's an error at my end but I just can't work it out. I've been setting up email accounts for years and, while never intuitive, they usually can be figured out with a bit of application. I have put about 8 hours into this now and the effort/reward equation is withering!!!

Thanks for checking the username and password combo are correct on the server. And, indeed, for the possibility at least that I could send emails from my own email addy.

      Cheers

      Andy

      Re: Close to tether's end

Actually, now I have it on my mind, is the username for mail.skyusermail.com definitely my forum username, saxman1000? Or have I supplied you with another that the server is actually waiting for?

This is the kind of schoolboy error that I hope I am making.

      Cheers

When did you apply for the SMTP account?
