s/h sky+ box come with card.... will previous owner get charged ?
I have just bought a third sky+ box(second hand) and it has arrived with the viewing card in it..... I have just set it up and everything is working fine, all the movie and sport channels( BTW, I subscribe to the highest package).....
I contacted sky yesterday to ask them to send out a new card which was going to be used with this 3rd box..... they explained that I will only be charged for this card when it's actually activated....... As the box arrived with a card already in it which is working fine, will I still get charged multiroom for this box ?
Will this have any implications for the previous user ?....
I obviously do not want him getting any bills for something he no longer has....
thanks
Carl

Your post raises some interesting questions.
You bought the box, not the card.
Did the seller know the card was in the box?
Should you tell the seller and return the card?
Has the seller cancelled the Sky contract.
The card is linked to a specific address/phone number.
It is the responsibility of Sky to switch it off.
Will the seller be charged, by Sky or
is there just a time delay before it is switched off.
On balance, I would contact the seller of the box.

Wow, sounds like the seller has not cancelled his subscription. The card is matched to the box and the subscriber by Sky. So it sounds like you are getting the other guys service at his cost. Up to you what you do about it I guess. I'd drop the seller a line to tell him that the card is still active.

Re: s/h sky+ box come with card.... will previous owner get charged ?
The seller has just upgraded to HD... so I assume that he must have had a new card with his HD box and obviously that has been activated..... is it just a case that because I have the full package that the card is working like a Freeview card.... after all the box I just bought will still receive all the channels I'm paying for (full package)... sky could not be charging him twice, could they ?
The only thing is that the channels(BBC) are BBC Scotland!!!.... and the box did come from Scotland BTW.....I haven't had the chance to check any other local channels this morning as I'm now in work.
Thanks

Re: s/h sky+ box come with card.... will previous owner get charged ?
When he upgraded to HD he was supposed to retain his old card and use that in the HD box.
He will not have had a new card sent out, of course once he calls Sky to get a new card the old one will be cancelled.

When I was upgraded to HD the installer used my existing card.
And he had to phone in to get HD activated
and the software upgraded.
He did leave the old standard box for me.Last edited by murdock; 01-03-07 at 09:43 PM. Reason: typo/ correction

The other guy must have got a new card with his HD box even though this was not necessary. The service you are getting with his card is not what you are paying for. Neither the Sky+ box or the Sky card knows where it is or who is using them. Get in contact with the seller to find out what is going on. Only he knows the history of the Sky+ box and the card.
